AK safari safety?

Yes, what PP's have said about rhinos is not true. They are not "docile" or "safe" animals. They are shortsighted, quick tempered and unpredictable. Disney apparently has them accustomed to the vehicles. But you would certainly NOT want to deal with one on a true safari (I've been on one) or outside of a sturdy vehicle. In the wild, they will charge if you get too close.

I agree that rhinos in the wild are not something you'd want to tangle with. However, the ones at Disney have become accustomed to the safari trucks and just don't care about them anymore. They're not seen as a threat.

I agree. That's what I was trying to convey since a few made it sound like they are docile and harmless animals. (Only at disney ;) )

Thanks, everyone. Yes, I still wonder about those rhinos. I definitely want to do this ride. At our local zoo, the rhinos have glass around the area and large drop off areas, so I just couldn't understand how it was ok for them to walk right up to the safari vehicle.
Excited to try an African safari. :cool1:

CAUTION: I have a bad cough right now, and it hurts to laugh. This needs a warning label before reading. I already learned never to take a drink before reading a post as I did that once and it took minutes to get all of the water from the wrong places. If I have to wait to read until after this sickness passes what else will I do on house arrest (have not left the house in a week, except to see the Dr).

My younger sister is a CM that drives the safaris. She says to date that only two guests have been eaten, so the odds are generally in your favor.

You'll be fine. Ride and enjoy. You could get more injured from some of these responses.

This is a question I always wanted to ask, but felt silly :lmao:
So thank you, OP.

Having said that, if a Rhino ever came that close to the jeep that I were in, I would have shat myself :rotfl2:

I'm a big scaredy cat and I felt 100% safe - though on entering the jeep I try to sit next to a tasty looking person in the hopes that should a lion escape they might not wanna eat me ;)

That's it. I cannot handle the pain anymore and must leave this post alone for a few more days. Will check back this weekend hopefully.

speaking of rhinos....our local zoo offers an up close and personal experience with the rhinos. You can brush them with one of those large push brooms. All that separates them from the guests are little bamboo type fences. I was pretty nervous at first, one bump and that rhino could easily have taken out that fence, but the two rhinos walked right over and seemed to enjoy the scratching.
