First timer staying at Disney. Is Animal Kingdom really to far and Inconvenient to get to Magic Kingdom? This is the only resort we plan to go too. I got a good rate at AK but, Poly and others are too pricy. Any help / suggestions?

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is the furthest of all the resorts from the Magic Kingdom, but that means it is about a 17 - 20 minute bus ride (and, of course, it is closer to some of the other parks, especially AK, which is only 3 - 5 minutes away). The bus ride to MK is longish, but not so bad that one should not stay there as a result.

I don't think an extra 5-7 minutes on the bus should detract you from staying there. I have always wanted to stay there and wouldn't think twice about the few extra minutes!! Enjoy your stay.

Disney property is 47 sq miles, it will take a bit of time to get from Point A to Point B. No one Resort is close to everything. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is amazing, staying there can be a Holiday all by itself. Go, enjoy

We stayed at AKL our last trip and absolutely LOVED it!! Yes, the ride to MK is longer than from some resorts but except for stopping at AKL villas there are no stops along the way unlike when staying at some other resorts. When we stayed at BC it honestly took us longer to get to MK because we stopped at all of the Epcot resorts before finally heading to MK. AKL is so unique and truly gave us the feeling that we never left a park while on our trip. I would gladly spend a couple more minutes on a bus to have the pleasure of staying there again. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I booked my trip at AK, thanks and we will enjoy it!! Very excited for our first visit.

I've stayed there a couple of times and didn't think transportation time was bad.

If you look at an actual map, not a Disney map, you will see that the MK is far from most of the resorts that aren't on the monorail:lmao:.

AKL is so beautiful and unique that it's a fun place to stay, no matter that the bus ride is a little longer.

If you have the opportunity to stay at AKL I'd say GO FOR IT!!! What an amazing resort!

Enjoy! The slightly longer bus ride to MK will be worth it for sure!!!!

I was so thrilled to be able to stay at AKL last Feb. that I really didn't even notice the long bus ride. DD and I only went to MK and Epcot on that trip - and truly it was a non-issue for us. Its actually kind of nice to get "home" from the craziness of the parks to a quiet, relaxing, beautiful resort that's far from it all.

We plan to stay at the AKL when we no longer have to haul strollers everywhere. We stayed at WL which is comparable in price to AKL and there is the ferry and bus to MK.

It is a great resort and we will likely stay there again, but when we were there last March it took an average of 45 minutes (yes, a couple of times an hour due to buses running late) to get to MK. Most of the time was waiting for the bus and since it was early March we were told they were not running as many buses.

That said, it was very relaxing and nice to see the animals and the theme was great!

If I got a great deal on it I would not pass it up, you can have long transportation times no matter where you are... been on many a stuck monorail recently as well. :goodvibes

No, it's not that far. It's a beautiful resort and well worth any extra time it may take compared to the MK resorts. We stayed there in 2009 and will be back this October. AKV is a destination in and of itself. :cloud9:

We actually love the length of the ride to the further parks because it gives us time to glance over our maps and finalize our plans for the day. Same goes for the return home. We're usually so pooped that we just lean back, relax and enjoy someone else doing the driving. :thumbsup2

AKL is a magical resort...you're going to love it!!!

For us it was too far from the action..the buses took forever and I prefer not to drive to MK (dont mind driving to the other parks though).

We did love the resort though, very pretty.

We too used to have the same concern. Then we thought, what's an extra few minutes??? We really like the theme. We'll be staying there for the first time MLK weekend. We'll see... We also plan to stay in May with more family. :yay:

If you have a car, the drive is 10 minutes (or so).

But then you have to park, tram and then monorail or ferry over.

When we stayed at AKL we were usually at MK within 30 minutes, which includes waiting for a bus. Most of the other parks we were there within 15-20.

When we stayed at the Poly, we were at MK in 5 minutes on the monorail, but holy cow, getting to DHS or AK was a nightmare on the busses! Made me appreciate the 20 minute bus trip to MK from AK! :)

Enjoy AKL. It's a beautiful resort and everyone is incredibly nice

Drive to AK from Polynesian is about 10 minutes and there's transport from the parking lot to the gates. Much quicker than the bus.
