We are thinking of spending a few days at AKL next year at Concierge level, do those rooms have Savannah views? DH is keen to wake up to the Giraffe but doesn't want to forfeit the Concierge!

Many thanks...

As far as I am aware concierge can be either Savanah or pool view you cannot specify which you get. I must say we did like our pool view in 2004 :)

Claire is correct - the price is set for pool/savannah view. You will need to specify on your planning form your preference for a savannah view (but it cannot be guaranteed). All concierge rooms are deluxe, so have extra space compared to the standard rooms. We found 6th floor better, as it is the same level as the lounge - and the views over the savannah are great. Don't forget that you get access to the wonderful Sunrise (and Sunset) safaris by staying concierge....they are incredible!

I've just got off the telephone to Member Services - if I book using my DVC points, which I intend to, they will guarantee a Savannah Concierge room.

Thanks for your comments though. One more thing, i know some of the rooms have a double and bunk beds - we won't get one of those will we - please say no!!! :rotfl:

i don't think that's correct....when we stayed concierge, our room was exactly the same size as the standard room we'd had when we weren't staying concierge.....

According to Allears, "Concierge rooms are identical to DeLuxe rooms" - but please tell me they don't have bunk beds!!!

When we stayed at AKL we had concierge savannah - it was fantastic. As I keep saying, no matter what time day or night you went out on to your balcony a whole host of animals and birds were around :paw: .

It is by far our favourite Disney resort, so different and special.

Wiith regards the bunk beds, from what I understand these are very much in demand so I can't imagine (epsecially if you request NO bunk beds) you will get them since they never seem to have enough to go around for families.

from what i remember, we could have had it with 2 queen beds or 1 queen and a bunk bed.....we took it with a bunk bed....
but that was the year before last....we didn't stay at the AKL this year...
now we always take two rooms....just more comfortable to have two rooms and two bathrooms, now that our kids are 21 and 18.....

We stayed in a pool view room on the 5th floor in 2004 and this was a deluxe. Apparently any room on floors 5 and 6 is deluxe :)

Well were you incorrectly placed? All of the concierge rooms are definitely deluxe.

Gill - It is great that DVC will guarantee you a Savannah View. :flower:

We stayed concierge on the 5th floor, the room was nice, had two queen beds and a lovley savannah view. We had requested this view and were given it. The staff there are really good.

I had booked us standard Pool view but got 5th floor rooms, it was only a month or so ago, went last Oct, that I realised that we had actually been upgraded to deluxe pool view as we were on the 5th floor!!! :cool1:

we were on the floor with the bridge (5th floor?) and had a savannah view....
we weren't that far from the concierge lounge....
perhaps they're referred to as deluxe because of the floor and the view, but it was definitely the same size room we had when we weren't concierge (though that time we also had a savannah view - only on the 3rd floor, which i actually thought was a much better view than up on the 5th)...

the rooms are pretty small at the AKL....if the room we were in was considered deluxe and was bigger, i'd hate to see how tiny the regular rooms are...

Found this info on another website for AKL room sizes -

Size of Rooms: Standard Rooms are on floors 1-4 and are 344 square feet, with the maximum occupancy of 4 people. Deluxe Rooms are on floors 5 and 6 and are 381 square feet, with the maximum occupancy of 5 persons.

From various room pictures I have seen I have noticed that a deluxe room has the extra armchair next to the bed whereas the standard doesn't.

No, they are referred to as deluxe also due to their larger size. I agree about the rooms being small at the AKL - I didn't feel for the (room) decor either - which is a shame as I loved the resort itself (except the location).
