AK Jambo House room question?

Leaving for WDW in 6 days! First time booking a Standard Studio at AK-Jambo House. Does anyone know what kind of views these rooms have? It's a DVC room, so would they all be on the 5th floor? Would like to call MS and make a request, only I don't know what to request! We stayed in savannah rooms at Kidani and always requested a low floor near the lobby.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated! But I'm sure we'll be happy with any view we get. Thanks again!

Jambo House standard villas are on the fifth floor and look out at the pool.

Many rooms previously categorized as savanna view have been re-categorized as standard view. We had one of these re-categorized rooms in January. It was great having a savanna view and not having to pay the points for it. So standard view is either pool view or savanna view at Jambo.

Thanks all for your help! I will call MS this morning and request a savannah view and see what we get. Either way, we'll be happy just to be there! Have a great day!

I believe STANDARD rooms ONLY have POOL view. I think some of the VALUE studios are the ones that sometimes have a savannah view --- if you get lucky.

We were just there in April and this is what we were led to believe.

We had a standard studio. 5 th floor and a wonderful view of the pool.

Honestly, I've found that just confuses the front desk staff ("savannah view? No no, those are more points..") Just go with the luck of the draw IMO.

Just called MS and asked to put in a room request for a savannah view. She told me that was a different catagory of rooms to book. I said I knew that, but could she just put it in as a request? Maybe I would get a bad angle view or be able to get a glimpse of the savannah. She repeated that was a different booking catagory and under no circumstance could she put savannah view in as a request. She explained to me that a standard view will be anything EXCEPT a view of the savannah. So I thanked her anyways and that was it. :sad1:

I am wondering if anyone ever booked a standard room and was able to request a savannah view?

I wasn't expecting a view of the savannah when I booked it so no big deal. But I just thought it was worth a try! :cool1:
Thanks!

If you really want a savannah view you have to book it with points! Just like MS said. It's just like BLT. I don't get a lake view studio but request a view if the magic kingdom. If I want a MK view then I have to suck it up and use points if that's what I really want!

If you happen to get a better view than what you booked without the use of extra points it's called pixie dust.

There are plenty of places to view the savannah at Jambo house without being in your room. Good luck!

NHGoofy - I believe all of the re-classified savanna view rooms are on the Kudu Trail.

So maybe put in a request for a Standard View studio on the Kudu Trail.

This would for all intents and purposes be a savanna view request without specifically asking for one since you can't get a view of the pool from the Kudu Trail.

If you are talking about Jambo house, then NO standard rooms have a savanna view. Only value rooms at Jambo house COULD have a savanna view, and then you can't request it.

If you are staying at Jambo in a Standard view room, you will have a pool view and may have a distant view of the savanna behind the pool, but it wont be savanna view.

The rooms that were reclassified from savanna to standard were at Kidani, not Jambo.

Where did you get this information? Any map I have seen that has the view noted have all standard around the pool. I have never seen anything about some being reclassified.

I am being quoted that a Jambo house studio is available Dec 6-11th for 59 points but when I do the calculating it is only 51?

Which is correct?

Thanks

For those dates:
Value = 51 points, Standard View = 59 points, Savanna View = 74 points, Concierge Level = 91 points

Yes some of the Savanna View rooms in Jambo House have been reclassified as Standard View. According to a front desk CM I spoke with on my last stay, Savanna View rooms with very restricted views were reclassified as Standard View. One specific example he showed me on a Jambo House map was a room that was right next to the emergency exit stairs at the end of one of the spurs. The room faces a savanna alcove and the stairs block the view out to the rest of the savanna. Other examples (given by DISers who booked Standard View and got assigned to a reclassified room) are rooms that are in the inside corners where the spurs connect to the main hallway.

I'm not surprised MS does not allow you to request a savanna view when you book a Standard View room. Many MS CMs don't seem to know AKV as well as we do. For example, several DISers have reported here that some MS CMs still insist that all Value rooms face the parking lot!

From reading all the comments, it seems like the standard rooms at Jambo have a pool view. With that being said, what would be a typical request to be made for a standard studio at Jambo House? Are there any better or worse views to get? So far I have not made any requests and will go with the luck of the draw. :) But happy to hear what anyone's experience was! Thanks!

We've not stayed in a JH Standard View room (yet) so I can't say which area would be better. Here's a map of the 5th floor at JH. The pool view ones will be along the Zebra Trail facing the Uzima Pool. I'm not sure where the Savanna Views have been reclassified as Standard View are located.

Here is a photo of the pool area at Jambo House. You can compare that against the room map provided by erionm to see if there is an area you would prefer, assuming you would prefer a pool view room and not a reclassified Savanna View room. As you can see from the photo, the rooms along the lobby (5401-5406) and those at the start of the Zebra Trail (5004-5010) over look that big roof over the restaurants.

Circled here is an example of the type of room I was told was reclassified from Savanna View to Standard View. In this case (room 5271 on the Sunset Savanna) the view from the balcony is affected by the fire exit stairs that jut out on the savanna side of the balcony, limiting the view to just that small alcove.

I've only had a standard view at Jambo once, and I liked the pool view and the villa wasn't far from the elevator that goes near the clubhouse and the children's small pool. I think the standard location of the standard view at Jambo is very convenient. Getting a savannah view for the price may be fine too, but we were happy with what we had.

In January we were put into Room 5203 reclassified as standard view. This room overlooks the sunset savanna. When I asked how we got upgraded the desk cm said we didn't, the rooms were reclassified.
