AK Jambo House room question?

In January we were put into Room 5203 reclassified as standard view. This room overlooks the sunset savanna. When I asked how we got upgraded the desk cm said we didn't, the rooms were reclassified.
Just to confirm, you were in a studio located along the Sunset Savanna side of the lobby, two doors down from the main entrance end of the lobby? I am going to update my Jambo House room database to track the reclassified rooms. I find people sometimes forget the exact room number or transpose digits so I want to be sure of the exact room number. Thanks!

Yes, that is the location. It was a studio lock-off with room 5202. The view from our door looked directly at the elevator area across the lobby.

I wonder why this room [5203] was reclassified? Looking at the room locations at ParkInfo2Go, I can't tell what the obstruction would be. :confused3 Not that I don't like it being reclassified. I have always found studio standard view at Jambo House the best room category for us. While I do enjoy the savanna view, I think the pool view is great, too . . . and saves me alot of points. :cutie:

Looking at the map it seems like Room 5203 is in the corner of two buildings. My guess is that if you look straight out, you're looking at the other building. To view the savanna, you would always have to be looking to the right. Almost like an obstructed view on a cruise ship when you're looking out at a life boat, yet you can still see the ocean. Just my guess. :) We're hoping right now for a nice pool view!

We have a standard studio in December at the Jambo but would like to see some of Kidani, this is probably a dumb question but is it an easy walk between the two and also how does the dining and gift shop compare?

Thank You!:surfweb:

It is about a 1/2 mile walk between the main entrances of each building. Since you cannot cross the savanna, you have to walk around the outside of both buildings. It is an easy walk and will take you about 10-15 minutes.

Kidani has one restaurant, Sanaa, table service, open for lunch and dinner. The food is Indian inspired and really good. It is located on the level below the lobby and has large windows facing the savanna. The gift shop is smaller than the one at Jambo House. Kidani has an area similar to Arusha Rock at Jambo where you can walk out from the lobby area to see the animals. It's not as large as the Arusha Rock area but you can see the animals better because you don't have to look through the fence.

We were given room 5544 a 1 bedroom unit as a recategorized standard.
The boards won't let me post a photo, but we had a great view of the Uzima Savanna, although there was an animal pen directly down from our balcony, maybe that's why it was reclassified.

Circled here is an example of the type of room I was told was reclassified from Savanna View to Standard View. In this case (room 5271 on the Sunset Savanna) the view from the balcony is affected by the fire exit stairs that jut out on the savanna side of the balcony, limiting the view to just that small alcove.

That map reminds me of why I hate paying for CL points and getting that savanna view studio in CL that is in the corner closest to the lounge. We were in that one last time we stayed CL, and it certainly was NOT a savanna view....It was more a road view. I'll take the pool view CL rooms any day over that studio!

According to a previous post in this thread room 5203, located below and 2 bays over from the CL room you mention, has been reclassified as Standard View. I expect that 5202 has been reclassified as well since it is even closer to that corner.

Well, we are here right now and was surprised that we did end up with a savanna room! On the Kudu Trail facing the Sunset Savanna. There is a "pen" directly below, but there are no obstructions seeing any of the animals that come by. The ostriches, cattle and giraffes have all been close by to get great views and pictures. Can't be happier with our standard room view!

Just thought I would mention this since I had so many questions about room views last week.

Thanks again for all the advise!

Perhaps it's because of the "people pen". In the past people who booked Savanna View rooms at AKL would be disappointed when they got a room over one of those pens. Yes you can still see animals but they can't come as close to your room in those areas and the overall view is not as green. I think it's a great solution to make those rooms Standard View but wasn't sure they had done so since as you say the view is not obstructed.

When your trip is over please let us know the room number. I will add it to the list.

Have a great trip!

I got one of those studios like Lisa described above as a "people pen". I didn't know that it was any different because it was the first time that I ever stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo with a standard studio.

I thought that it was an upgrade.

I was expecting a DVC standard studio with possible a pool view which I would have loved, too, as a first time stay.

I had the concrete area surrounded by bamboo fence right outside the patio that Lisa called a "people pen".

I was on the 5th floor so at first look out on the balcony, I just looked past the concrete area and I was in awe of the Sunset Savanna and the animals.

One night, three female giraffes had there heads over the fence standing right next to each other just looking or resting. I don't think they were resting there heads on top of the bamboo fence.

And at the nearest tree I saw a very tall, big giraffe eating the tree branches.

I just stood sat and admired them in the short distance.

Before checkin a Castmember had shown me a baby giraffe near the night vision area savanah.

I thought the three female giraffes standing next to each other from my studio balcony were babies also compared to the huge male.

But the next day a Castmember told me that they were indeed one large male and three female giraffes.

I was on a no park visit for 4 days from May 8th because my points were going to expire in September 2011. No more banking for me. I thought that I could have used my bank points for December 2012. Lesson learned.

Such a beautiful resort.

I just loved all of the animals and all of the places to sit and relax and view the animals.

I have been to AKL many times just to dine at Boma and Jiko, but this was a totally different experience relaxing in my studio.

I can see where it might not be as nice of view if someone was on the 2nd or bottom floor for a regular resort room and expected to see animals right outside their balcony.

But since I was higher up on the 5th floor and I was expectin a pool view and I had no idea what the experience would actually be, I was extremely happy and wonderfully surprised.

RaySharpton has the description spot on. Could be the same room we're in right now. If you were on the 2nd or 3rd floor you would be looking straight out at the "pen" fence. I would not like that at all if I was booking a savanna room. But from up on the 5th floor the view is perfect. And we're seeing as many animals as we have when we booked a savanna view room!

When I called MS and asked if I could request a savanna view, she told me she could not put that in because it was a booking category. So I was pleasantly surprised when we got this room after all. Pixie Dust!

Wow, so Jambo house really does have some "bargain" rooms! I feel thrilled with the point cost for the value rooms, but to find that there are some hidden gems with the standard category at Jambo is an extra plus! Of course, the views from concierge give some cause to complain so that's not good.

Just back from AKV and stayed at jambo in a standard view studio which looked directly out onto the uzima savannah. studio 5528

Seems like a lot of people have recieved Pixie Dust when staying at the AKL!!!!
We are staying at AKL Jambo at the end of June :cool1: with rented DVC points. I was told that the DVC rooms in Jambo are located on the 5th & 6th floors only; Is this true? Also, are there any DVC Standard Studios that have a parking lot view? I HOPE NOT!!! :worship:

Unfortunately, you probably won't get any upgrades staying on DVC points. They seldom happen on points.

All the DVC villas in Jambo House are on the fifth and sixth floors. The ones on the sixth floor are concierge villas. Standard views are not parking lot, they should be pool view, but some may be a somewhat restricted savanna view.

My boyfriend's Uncle stayed in room #5544 classed as a 'standard view' which he just couldn't understand... he said regardless of the 'people pen' below it's a fantastic savannah view! :confused3

My question is, where abouts are the CL villas located exactly? I know they're on the 6th floor.. but are they above the Lobby? Or on a certain trail?

Thanks.

The only part of Jambo House that has a 6th floor is the lobby area. The Concierge rooms are located along both sides of the lobby, above rooms 5202-5209 and 5401-5406 on this map.
