Airtran?

I am thinking of booking a flight for my family for August from Boston to BWI...I know nothing about Airtran? Anything I should know ahead of time? Are they ok? Thanks.

They are fine. I fly them fairly often from Newport News, Va. Fairly low cost. The only thing I can think to tell you is you pick your seat when you check in(which you can do online).

I was kind of concerned about the seat thing. It said something like pay extra to pick your seat now, or do it at check-in. I have 3 kids and I don't want to be scattered around the plane!

I believe most pick their seats upon check in. We used AirTran for an all girls trip last January and had no problems getting seats for the 6 of us together.

You can now pick your seats in advance for $5 a head. I did that because I'll be traveling with my grandchildren and was afraid of being split up. I am taking it in August also and also to BWV. Their prices were right AND I can take off and return to a smaller airport.

We have flown them several times, and never had a problem. Every flight has been early. While we have never had a problem sitting together, I did pay the $5 per seat to reserve our seats for our next flight in October.

We usually fly Airtran and have never had any issues. Although we do have our flights booked for our October trip and I received an e-mail saying the flight to MCO was cancelled and we had to pick a new flight. I called them and they were very helpful and I was able to choose another direct flight to MCO without any problems. I also paid the $5.00 per seat so that my family could sit together.

No it doesn't. They did not offer it when I bought my seats in February, but I just paid the $5 each about 3 weeks ago, when I saw they offer it now.

You can select your seats now as the other poster said..You can even change your mind later! Same happened to me, bought my tickets months ago and then they offered this option.

PS they are part of Magical Express now also.

Since when? I fly Airtran several times a year (last time was early April). I've never had to pay to bring luggage.

Airtran flies to MCO -- I booked from PHL to MCO for November. I've never flown them before but since Spirit is so outrageously priced now (not to mention you have to pay for even the FIRST bag), I had to expand my horizons.

I booked a few weeks ago and picked me seats at that time. I hope they are good!

What's this about paying for extra luggage...I thought I saw a two bag per person limit. Has that changed?

This is the airline of "ValuJet" that ridiculously unsafe airline that cut EVERY corner to maximize their profit-they painted their fleet and changed its name to "AirTran" - I would NEVER fly this airline, after their aircraft crashed into the Everglades killing every soul on board-just because some greedy, corporate drones wanted a home in the Hamptons!
