We'll be flying airtran for the first time on 5/11. My parents fly AT often and pay at the gate to upgrade to first/business class. There are only two of us so I hope to be able to do this. Does anybody fly the Indianapolis to Ft. Myers or Orlando to Indy route often enough to know how often those upgrades are available and if they are worthwhile?

I don't fly that particular route, but we fly Airtran quite a bit, and it seems like upgrades are usually available, especially the earlier you check in. From my experience, they are $35 per person, and I think its worth it for a long(er) flight, but I haven't on flights that are lass than an hour or so. You get a lot more room and free drink coupons as well.

Anyone have any experiences upgrading at Logan to Orlando. We were thinking of booking Airtran in October as they are much cheaper than Delta and Jet Blue.

Several years ago the upgrades were $35. Now they are $60.

You can check for availability the day before by pretending to buy 2 business class seats from the website. If they are still available (very likely) just get to the airport early, at least 2 hours before your flight.

If' you're connecting in Atlanta, that is considered 2 flights for upgrading purposes. You would have to pay to upgrade to Atlanta, and then pay again if there is a business class seat available for the second flight.

We took a bump last fall and (in addition to our free round trip tickets), we were upgraded to business class on the flight they put us on. DS loved it - all the snacks he wanted!
