Does anyone know what Airtran charges for an upgrade to business class on the day of flying? Reservations are showing all business seats are still available so thinking of leaving the tween and teen in the back and movin up :cool1:

Depends on segment length. For example, philadelphia to orlando is 69. If you do this at 24 hour online check in, be sure to take advantage of 2 free checked bags per person.

Thanks! Didn't know I could do this at the 24 hour mark. Will be doing this if no more than $69. Then I'm going to do a :furious: and send my bags on ME and take a towncar to the Poly.

The option should be there when you go to check in online. If it isn't, feel free to call and explain that you are trying to upgrade but are having computer difficulties and someone should be able to help.

I didn't know you could do this but if it's available for us I'm definitely doing it. I'm starting to worry about leg room for my 6'3" bf and 6'4" son. Can someone tell me if there is a big difference in leg room in business class?

We just got a free upgrade on our way home last month. And two free RT tickets to boot! It was a tremendous experience, loved it and are spoiled from now on. The leg room was outstanding, that alone is worth it. My DH is 6'2" and he said it was the first time he walked off a plane not feeling stiff. And he loved the chocolate milk! Seriously, he got 2 of them. It was just so nice. I don't think I would pay almost 100.00 more for it, but it sure was a nice "gift".

For Buf-Mco on a direct it would of been $99. If you have a layover, you pay I believe $49 for each segment.

Upgrades are 49, 69, 99 and 129, depending on distance.

I have upgraded every flight (6'6" here) and it is wonderful. I would suggest doing an upgrade as early as you can, right at the 24 hour mark, the seats can go quickly. If using mileage points, you can do midnight of the day before your flight.

Anyone know how much it is for the upgrade from LEX to MCO? I would do the $49 but not sure if any more than that since there is 6 of us.

Thanks! I would love to upgrade but I don't know if I can handle both ways. Is the coach seating worse than a Delta MD-88?

Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm new to Air Tran, but don't you have to have a coach "Y" class ticket in order to upgrade? I don't think you can pay the small upgrade fee of $49-$99 on a 'web special' fare...can you?

I used an upgrade voucher for my flight to Orlando last month. I don't drink alcohol, so when I saw they had Nestle's chocolate milk as a "freebie" in business class, I ordered it! (Next time I'll get a 2nd one as they are half pints.) It's nice to sit in business class, get a BIGGER bag of chips (or in my case, Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies!) and drink chocolate milk. I also love getting off the plane quickly and not having to pay the checked bag fee. :dance3:

Just an FYI, but you can't send your bags on ME and nobody get on the ME bus. They will most likely leave your bags at the airport since you did not check in or get on one of their buses. You will have to take your bags with you if you are solely using the towncar service. ME is not a baggage service for just anyone. You have to use them in order to get that service.

Check seating here......

The 717 is similar to an MD-88, but the seating on an airline and any airframe can be totally configured differently.

You can upgrade any priced seat.

Thanks for the info! I was thinking we were out of luck since we got the web special fare and I've been researching seat pitch on each of the planes and it looks like airtran's 717 might have an inch or 2 less but the seat is an inch wider. I'll just have to wait until October to see if we will be able to upgrade.
