Airtran Ticket Question

I now have a similar problem, so I'm hoping since Huskies90 as already gone, I'll be able to get some good info from all of you too.
my situation: traveling is myself, my daughter (15) & her friend (15)aka:A
Buf to MCO in early Nov.
I was just told that "A" can't go because of some health concerns. my daughter has asked another friend to go also (15) aka: "M" Problem same as huskies: ticket in "A"s name. Airtrans has change the schedule 2x since I booked and first one I changed & second one I accepted as OK. I have no problem paying the $75 change fee but our flights prices are now $280 higher for the 1 ticket that needs to be changed and of course 840.00 more for all 3. Which is totally undoable for me.

Any help or advise would be totally appreciated!

Well, they don't ask for ID for minors. Just use the ticket as is. I would also print out my boarding passes at home and use the skycap to check your luggage because sometimes the ticket counter agents will ask for ID, but like I said, minors do not need to produce ID.

As I said, no legitimate solutions.

Plenty of solutions if you are willing to cheat and lie.

I ended up going "legit" with my situation because a few hundred bucks wasn't worth risking. Also, as it turns out, before we left the fare dropped about $200 so I ended getting a credit for my daughter's friend's ticket anyway. So when all was said and done, if you include the credit in the calculation, it really did not cost me much at all.

Now, if I was in your situation, I would be more inclined to let the new friend use the old friend's ticket as it is a different name anyway and they will not ask for ID. That has already been well established. In my case, the old ticket was in my ex - wife's name so if I got questioned I would have to say she was a sister or cousin maybe and of course the ages didn't match if they had dob on record...so in my case it just made more sense to change it. Again, in your case I would probably just go for it with the ticket you have.

You are going to get many opinions about what is right and wrong, etc...but ultimately, it is your decision how to proceed. As crashbb says, I don't think there is anything "legit" you are going to be able to do to avoid the fare hike to change the names outside of maybe getting them to waive the $75 change fee.

Good luck with your decision!!

correct me if I'm wrong....but aren't they going to ask both 15 year old girls at the security line for ID or will they only want mine presented for all 3 of us travelng together?

I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that the fares will drop and another "schedule change" will happen.

Thorw yourself on the mercy of the airlines. Call and let them know what happened - they might show mercy since it is due to medical complications and let you change the name. I have found that the Airtran reps are very nice. I would call and say that your daughter's friend will have to cancel and you are exploring the idea of taking another girl but you can't afford to buy another whole ticket and would it be possible to change the name. If you don't like the answer hang up and don't make any changes...if you do like the answer - make the change with that rep since they are willing to do it. This falls into the it never hurts to ask category.

But for future reference...never accept a schedule change from Airtran. You never know what might change! I once didn't accept one and on the spur of the moment added an extra day onto my vacation with no change fees....
