Has anyone flown AirTran through Southwest? Can you please tell me the differences between that and just flying Southwest? TIA

I have not done this myself. I recently flew airtran and the day after coming home Flint converted to southwest. I have never flown southwest. On airtran you pay for checked bags on southwest you do not. On airtran you can get purchase pre assigned seat on southwest you can not. I have read here on the dis that if you book airtran through southwest you get the free checked bag. Not really sure about that. On southwest you can pay extra for SW to check you in so you don't have too and then you would get a better boarding zone.
If you purchase early check in with SW then the only other advantage would be free checked bags and for a family that would be a huge savings. I only have to pay for myself so I always choose Airtran because I prefer to pick ahead of time where I sit. This way my friends and I can always sit together and where we want.
