Airtran seating question

At a glance it appears we can only sit together in one row that is not already filled....while I was looking at the seating chart for our flight I noticed that many of the seats are listed as "blcoked" and only a few are listed as "occupied by another passenger?? I am confused. What is the difference? ?? Anyone know?

Most airlines block seats for their frequent fliers. If they are not taken up by the day of the flight they are opened up to general seating. I would take what seats you can get sitting together then see if you can get better seats when you check in. You can also try calling the airline but it's been my experience that if seats are blocked, the online agent will not be able to get you better seats.

Ok I was just really worried because it looked like the entire fight was full except like 10 seats and only one row of them were together. Then I realized most of them were listed as blocked. Only a few had been purchased ahead of time ...I think I'll go ahead and take your advice so we at least get to sit together. Thanks

Also try to check in online at the 24 hour mark and you will have the option to change your seats. That said, I have had it go both ways. One flight was wide open and I changed to better seats, the other was totally full and I was happy to get what I got.

Thanks for the info . I am going to call in the mronig. They have so many seats blocked off...I wonder if it is just so I pay the $5????
