Our flights on March 20th dropped to $110 one way from $274. Got a big credit now for luggage fees.

WooHoo!

Yay! I didn't realize you could use credits for luggage fees - woo hoo! Congrats AND thanks for the info! :)

Did you have to pay the $75 per person change fee to get the lower price? I guess even if you did it was still $90 cheaper per ticket, correct?

Yes, I paid the change fee so it was a very significant price drop to still have a credit.

I just booked at the $110 price from Indy to MCO. SUPER EXCITED. We were going to drive but at that price and with the cost of gas and the fact that it's 1100 miles for us to drive... well, that was a price I couldn't pass up!!!

You actually paid the change fee? I've never paid that, not once. All I do is call and ask the customer service person to please give me a credit to the reduced price.

I changed flights so I paid the change fee. I should have stated that earlier. I got a better, non-stop flight and the price drop covered the fee plus gave me a credit.

Sorry for the confusion.

Claudia, how did you learn about the price drop? Have you been checking fares for your flights periodically, or did you get a notification from AirTran (or a third-party service) that they were having a fare sale?

I'm shopping for flights from Boston in late May, and it puzzles me that fares have been rising for flights that still show a lot of unsold seats. One AirTran flight has nearly doubled to $205 one-way (+$20 for a bag) in the last couple of weeks, yet half the seats show as available. Based on experience in prior years at this time, I've been holding out for a fare sale, but I'm getting nervous.

I've been watching for months now, and Airtran's prices haven't budged...I agree with these posts, the flights are NOT full and they almost always drop 60-90 days out. I travel in June, anyone have a feeling one way or another here? Direct flight CAK to TPA has never been this high. I will probably end up driving at this rate.
