Airtran oversize/overweight fee change Oct 1st

Effective October 1st, 2009 Airtran will change their policies and fees for overweight and oversize as follows:
Oversize:
62''-70''= no fee (previously $39.00)
71''-80'' = $79 (remains same)

Overweight:
51-70 lbs. = $49.00 (previously $39.00)
71-100 lbs = $79 (same)

Again this changes October 1st, 2009 so if your traveling before then make sure your luggage is smaller than 62'' otherwise after October 1st it will be one less worry as I do not know much luggage that is greater than 70''. Ist checked ($15) and second checked ($25) fees remain.

This is great for people travelling with strollers!

Our stroller bag (whether we put one or both strollers in) measured 64". This means that we can take the strollers now and check them with our luggage instead of dragging them through security. The kids are 4 and 6 so they only use them at WDW anyways.

Be careful it's very easy for a 61" bag to be overweight. It's going to be very easy for a 69" bag to be overweight. It's nice airtran is no longer going with a size 1" below industry standards and charging customer for marginally over sized bags.

I think that is why they increased the size allowed and bumped the overweight fee by $10.00 as size is so subjective where two agents can get two different measurements whereas weight is non subjective.
