While doing my daily search for airfare, I noticed that Airtran's price went down to $158 RT, NS. I know no one has a crystal ball, but do you think I should hold out for a better deal? In the past I have seen Airtran go to $74 one way. We are not leaving until Oct. Any thoughts???

The difference is only $10 total. I wouldn't gamble over $10. You may lose out on the $158 RT fare.

$74 one way times 2 = $148.

$158 - $148 = $10

Dahhhh! How stupid do I feel! I just didn't stop to think about it! Sorry for such a dumb post!

....not a dumb post at all! (just take a glance at the budget board...lol!) Our rule of thumb, concerning R/T out of BWI is jump on any NS airfare that drops below $175.00 It get's to the point where you have to weigh the cost, against actually getting there on the dates that you've booked your lodging on. BTW, Airtran has supplanted SW as our favorite airline. New, roomier planes and good service.....

Frankly, I'd hold out for Southwest fares - I can usually do better with them out of BWI. You have to search their website directly though - www.iflyswa.com - the good fares don't show up on Travelocity or Expedia. I don't know if Southwest has posted fares for that far in the future but I think they are worth the wait.

Just my opinion.....

Good luck!

Does Southwest do a nonstop out of BWI? I am willing to pay a little more for nonstop. DH hates to fly, so we humor him and book NS so he only has to take off and land once per flight! Thanks for all your help....Susan

I have a son with ear problems so we ONLY do non-stop flights. Southwest has several non-stop flights per day between BWI and MCO (Orlando's airport).

Just remember to get there early with Southwest, as seating on the plane is NOT pre-assigned. If you get there early, you'll get a boarding pass with a low number and will be one of the first on the plane. You can pick any seats you want.

Thanks for all the info Doreen. We also like in Southcentral Pa, Shippensburg. It's a small world!

If you're going to hold out for something better, there is something you should at least consider. (IMHO of course!) If you've already booked your accomodations, there is a finite # of N/S flights for any given day. Holding out works both ways...fares, and flights can, and do, go up and book up as well. Though it's possible that fares can go down, that's not always the case. I hunt in South central PA, (Bedford), I love your area! Hope this helps!

susan137 & Skinsfan...very small world. I used to go to college in Chambersburg (Wilson College) and I lived in the area as well! I have relatives that live in Bedford!

Sorry to temporarily hijack the thread! ;)

If you call Southwest, they can usually tell you when they'll release their fares for your timeframe. Then you just need to check right away to get the flights you want. I've found their website to be great for checking various dates, etc.

I'm in Lancaster county, close to Harrisburg & Hershey!! Harrisburg International Airport is in the process of bidding the construction of a new & larger terminal so maybe I won't have to drive to BWI too much longer.....<crossing fingers!>.

I'm not taking AirTran out of BWI, but I was looking for nonstop flights out of Philly for November when I stumbled across some Web Special Fares of $69 one way. They were not there a few days ago. I first noticed it last night and I booked this AM. HTH!

We would be traveling from above Philly to BWI. Does anyone know of good park and fly hotels? These hotels usually include parking for the duration of your trip free of charge with your overnight stay rate.
