Through August 22 travel.

Can any of you Pittsburgh travelers give me any advice on airfare? 2 years ago I booked with Airtran for $59 (are those rates long gone?). Airfare for Pitts to Orlando for August are now $99 and $119 (SW)---should I hold out a few more months for cheaper rates?

The new rate is $84 with the email I just got, which isn't really that much of a discount and it would mean I'd have to change from leaving on a Sunday to a Monday. Any advice?

those days aren't gone, my mom just flew South West out of Pittsburgh 2 weeks ago for $36 down and $34 return. I flew SW in October out of Pittsburgh to Orlando for $45 each way. I don't know what to tell you though about booking now or holding out. Do you watch the Ding's on SW? That's where we have got our deals over the past two years. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I just saw USAirways reduced rates too--but $122? Nope, think I'll hold out.
I do have Ding downloaded, but have never used it. Do they lower the rates on Ding already for August, or is it closer to the date?

Thanks for your info and help.

No, you won't get any Ding's for August yet. Lately, the Ding's have been for no more than six weeks or so out. However, definitely watch for a systemwide sale. There is one going on right now, but, I don't think the prices are that great for August yet. I just booked for May last week with this current systemwide sale PHL/MCO and return for $49 each way.....total with taxes $117.10, so, I would say if you can, hold out just a bit.....if you must book for certain days/dates, book it at the higher fare and then keep watching....SW will give you the credit for the difference to be used within one year of original booking date.....I've done this on many occasions when I knew we would be traveling several times during the year.

new AT sale fares for PIT ($89 on a Tuesday):confused3 during our week - that's it.

SW fares are still horrid, paid more that the $122 you reference to get home.

There is no love for Minnesota in this sale! Usually we are able to get a decent rate from Airtran and have been using them for the past 5 years or so. However, this sale drops the price from $109 to $104 for each way - this is only a $5 savings!!!! I guess this will be the first trip that we have paid way more than I wanted to on airfare. We may possibly consider renting a car and driving!:confused3
