AirTran is offering A+ credits for GC again :)

Does this mean that if you book through Kayak, you can get seat assignments at no charge but if you go to the Air Tran website, (or any other website) you must pay for seat assignments on Air Tran?
Doesn't Kayak direct you to the airline's website anyway?

I don't know what the glitch is with this but yes, you can book the seat assignments and it LISTS the charge as being there BUT it will not appear on your final charge. I have done it several times. There's just something that gets lost in the translation between Kayak & the Air Tran site. The first time it happened I even CALLED about it and they said don't worry about it "you have your seats".:confused3 If you book directly thru the Air Tran site you WILL pay the $6 per seat.

Scratch what I said earlier about anyone using the vouchers, Just called and now you can only exchange credits 24 hrs before flight for business class upgrade it let me do it for myself and my son online but not for his twin brother so I called 3 times to make sure I got correct info. :confused3 Don't know about the free flight.

About a year ago AirTran stopped offering the ability to convert A+ credits in to vouchers. You now have to use the credits at the time of requesting the reward. So booking a flight and using the credits or upgrading and using the credits at that time. No longer able to use rewards for a voucher. Seems like an attempt to let more rewards expire or promote people to pay the fee to extend.

I got it to work :) maybe they are just having problems with their system, I knew something was screwey because when I called last night to upgrade us the CM said "did you already convert your A+ rewards into vouchers" I said "yes" then he said "great makes it a lot easier for me to upgrade you". So when I called this morning I was really confused and apparently they were to.

I called AirTran tonight to check on this because I have 4 total credits, 1 of which will expire a week before the flight for which I wish to upgrade. In essence I'd like to redeem the 4 A+ credits for a voucher now, hold onto the voucher for a week, and then use it for the upgrade (assuming there's availability, of course). I received conflicting information when I called:

Representative #1 was a bit snippy to begin with (including the dreaded sighing after I asked my question), so I feared that I wasn't going to get a clear answer. He told me that what I was requesting could not be done; business class upgrades had to be done in one transaction (redeeming the A+ credits and requesting the upgrade). I explained that the website allows met to redeem my credits for the business class upgrade, which the site says will take 1 to 2 days to process. I asked him what happens in that case...since I won't have the ability to apply the upgrade until it's been processed. I kept pressing that a voucher of some kind would have to be issued in this instance. It sounded like he was guessing and just trying to get me off the phone when he stated that, well, YES voucher WOULD be given in this case, but it would only...uh...be good for 24 hours and that I'd have to make the upgrade right away. This seemed fishy, since I can't really count on when the voucher will hit my account anyway. I could tell he was frustrated with my questions and wasn't too reliable. So I stumbled across this thread and decided to try my luck again by calling back.

Representative #2 was much more pleasant and said that yes, of course what I was requesting could be done; the voucher would be good for up to a year from its issuance. She said that this is the scenario only for business class upgrades and not for reward flights.

So...do you think I can trust representative #2? Does anyone else have experience here?

Thanks for all your help!

That is incorrect. Please re-read my post # 14. I just did this in July. I redeemed credits in July & used the voucher in August.

You can redeem the credits for a voucher prior to their expiration date & the voucher is good for 1 year. You can do this online & you just specify that the credits / voucher will be used toward an upgrade. You can call for the upgrade 24 hrs before & tell the agent you have a voucher to redeem.

Andy - please read my posts about this. Take door # 2. I just did this over the summer... I was able to redeem credits for vouchers online and a month later I used the vouchers over the phone for an upgrade to Businsess class.

Annie: Thanks for your confirmation!

Now, one last (I hope!) question: If I upgrade to business class, that means I get the free checked luggage perks of business class, right?

Thanks again!

Yes! :thumbsup2 (For THAT flight only.)

Kinda read, but didnt read close I'll admit. Do you need 8 points for just a one way ticket, or does 8 get you a RT ticket?

You need 8 credits for a one-way flight. It would take 16 credits for a round-trip.

We bought $300 in GC Thursday, got the code instantly and the A+ credits posted overnight. With the 3 credits earned plus credits my wife and I already had we were able to book a one way business class back from MCO in June. There were no coach reward seats available for the time/date we wanted and the coach seats were selling for $107. We can usually get them for around $80. Probably not the best use, but we had some credits about to expire in a couple of weeks and wanted to use them up. Paying to extend them it not real cheap.

*bump*

This is a great promotion. I guesstimate how much I'll need to spend each year on Airtran and buy a gift certificate for that amount during this promotion. I love getting the extra rewards towards our business class upgrades!

I think the 4 credits for an upgrade is probably the best use of the credits. I just wish I could get DW to realize that. She would rather spend 8 for a one way. Hopefully after flying business class after burning 16 credits she will realize that paying 4 credits to just upgrade is the better option.

Did you show your DW my post showing that using the credits for upgrades is a far better bargain since they offer flights for 59 then tack on a 25 coupon (which I have been able to use for every flight:wizard: good timing I guess) making it a whopping $34 for my flight and using 4 credits to upgrade which cost $69 from DFW to MCO plus get 2 free bags which is an additional $15 + $25 savings. Don't forget the EXTRA LEG ROOM and comfy chairs!!! and Drinks and snacks as soon as you are seated and.... :rotfl: just kidding I ran out of and's ..that's all I've got for you.

What is the $25 coupon you are talking about?

They offer them for different reasons, got one once for V-day, Mother's Day, Happy Holidays, the last one was if you were flying to Florida from any airport. They come out at different times of the year each year, some even receive them just for being A+ rewards members (I haven't gotten one of these yet) I have just been very lucky and have used a $20 or $25 for every flight that I have booked.

If you buy the GC do you have to wait for a card/cert. in the mail or is it a voucher code that can be used right away ???

We have been thinking about getting our tickets but if we get the GC first and then buy the tickets we get the extra points as a bonus ... Correct.

Can GC be used to buy upgrades, for baggage fees or for drinks on board ???

Thanks for any info ...

If I recall correctly it is emailed to you or automatically put into your A+ rewards account can't remember which but it is pretty much instant. They can be used to purchase anything online... upgrades, baggage fees... have no idea about drinks on board.

They give you a certificate number right away. Print the page or copy it down. You can book your flights using the cert number as soon as you finish your purchase. They will also send you an e-mail with the certificate number, but it doesn't arrive immediately. I don't believe you can use gift certificates to buy drinks onboard because the FA's have no way to know what you have. You can use them for anything online or by phone and unused balances never expire nor are you charged a service fee. You can use them to pay for anyone, not just yourself. Your A+ flight credits show up in your A+ account overnight (usually), but the site says to allow up to 7 days.
