I was on he SW site and plugged in our departure dates and saw some great fares on flights operated by Airtran. It doesn't mention there are bag fees or seat assignment fees.

In fact, since it is the SW site, it says:

"1st and 2nd Checked Bags Fly Free.
Weight and size limits apply. Bag Charge$0.00 "

Will the charges appear once I purchase the tickets?

Help please!

When on the SWA website and it mentions routes operated by AirTran and you click on that, it takes you over to AirTran website to actually make the booking. And AirTran still charges for checked baggage. The option to prepay for luggage comes later in the booking process.

OP today i was suprised to see AT flights listed on the SWA schedule when i checked existing reservation fares.

If the flight has both a SWA & AT flight number listed, you'll notice the drop down menu when you select a fare references $0 bag fees

you can use SWA points to book these flights directly on the site vs going over to AT

only issue is you cannot select your seats on the AT flights (either on SWA site or AT site) nor can you select early board for the route. I was vaguely instructed to call in 24 hours prior and 'see what happens' then.:crazy2: starting a thread to see if anybody has any info on this.

We are booked roundtrip with Southwest and I went online to change a flight and also saw that Airtran operated flights are being offered on the Southwest website for our travel dates. I was also concerned that if I changed my flight to one of those Airtran operated flights that I would be subject to Airtran's baggage fee policies. I called Southwest and was told that if I book the Airtran operated flight online through Southwest's website then Southwest's baggage policies (1st and 2nd checked bags free) would apply in this case even though it is an Airtran flight.

As of Feb 25, 2013 SWA and AirTran were starting to offer codeshare bookings. So it looks like it has started early.

With the codeshare starting if you book an AirTran flight on the SWA website the SWA bag fee rules apply, but you won't be able to pick your seat until you get to the gate. If you book your flights on the AirTran website and at least one leg is flown on SWA then the SWA bag fee rules apply.

As others have said, it has changed. That WAS the way it appeared. Last night, I saw the same thing, they show up together on the SW site.. And you can use your SW points to book Air Tran flights, without converting them to Air Tran rewards or whatever. They show up right on the SW list of flights.

I am bummed, I just booked a flight using Air Tran, and now a few days later, could have booked it on the SW site and saved those baggage fees? RATS. But I have seats reserved, so whatever. It will be odd to have flights with some seats reserved ahead of time, and I suppose the SW bookers will get seats assigned at the airport? Or board last and take what's left?

I am a little bit nervous about this situation. I booked on AirTran for August three weeks ago. Now when I look on the AirTran website, the flight is still there but there are no more available seats to purchase. When I transfer to the SW sight there are seats available to purchase for my flight. I already paid for seats through AirTran. I hope I still get my seats!

southwest crews were in such a tither about merging together... it may benefit the users more than I had thought, tho
