On 2/1/07, I booked a non-stop flight from Charlotte, NC to Orlando for 9/22/07. I checked the flight today and they had changed the flight completely. They had me with a 2 hour layover in Atlanta! I did not receive any type of notification about this change. We would rather drive than have a layover. I called AirTran and they changed me to another non-stop flight, but the flight times are different.

So those of you who are booked with AirTran, keep a close eye on your flights. If I had known they worked like this, I never would have booked with them in the first place.

Welcome to the world of air travel. The only airline that doesn't typically tinker with their schedule is Southwest..... too bad it happened to you, but it is pretty typical of airlines in this climate where everyone wants cheap fares. Airlines are doing whatever they can to make money, which includes changing schedules around.

ITA with Duds. Delta, AirTran, United, USAirways, etc etc etc. You've booked 8 months in advance, and in essense all you've booked is 'a' seat, on 'an' airplane, from Point A to Point B.

My AirTran flight had 3 minor time changes. I was only emailed after the third time. It has not changed since that third time, and the flight is now 2 weeks away. My theory; they'll email once it is a sure thing. Am I right? Who knows?

Glad you were able to get on another non-stop.

You've got to keep checking up until the bitter end;) , the trade-off for low fares I suppose.:confused3

I have no problem with time changes. I realize this will happen. But changing from non-stop to layovers. They just cancelled the non-stop flight I was booked for, put me on one with a layover, and opened up another non-stop.

I agree they should have put you on the other non-stop... my guess is that it is a computer program that looks for a replacement flight. Either it looks for the closest departure time to your original departure or flight that has the same fare class as the seats you purchased... not sure. This is one of the reasons to watch your flights closely. If they do make a change, you call and they usually make the changes for your without a change fee. I had this happen on Sun Country a few years back. Our return flight moved up 2 hours. I didn't like the change so called and they gladly put us on the flight the next day (which we actually wanted to day anyways, just didn't want to have to pay the change fee). Sometimes changes work in your favor...

Have a great trip!

How did you realize your flight changed? We're booked with Airtran for April and our morning flight no longer shows up on the menu if put the date in on the "book reservation" screen, but it does show up on my itinerary. Should I call and check?
Thank you.

If there is a flight change, it will be reflected in your "My Itinerary" page on the web site. Just keep an eye on that page. If it no longer shows up on the booking page, the flight is most likely sold out.

Airtran is notorious for doing this. We have found that they don't mess around too much with their first and last flights out for the day so we try to book those (which are usually our preferred times anyway, we like to maximize our vacation time). They may move those flights around by a few minutes, but usually nothing major. You just have to keep checking.

I signed in under my account and looked at the flight. I noticed everything was totally different. They were very nice when I called about putting us on another non-stop flight. You'd better bet I will check the flights daily though....Gosh, that's a lot of checking until Sept 22! Make sure you keep an eye on your flight. I had noticed that my flight #'s no longer showed up under their flights a few days ago but assumed it had sold out. But apparantly they just did away with that flight. Good luck.

Your flight is bound to change between now and 7 months from now. Personally, it would be a lot of wasted time for me to check a flight every day between now and then, especially because chances are good you'll have to make multiple changes. Might as well wait until closer to the flight date and hopefully get it done all at once.
