I have a pretty decent airtran credit (for a price drop) that I was planning on using a portion of for luggage fees. I have already used part of it to pay for our seat fees. I have spoken twice with customer service who told me I could use the credit on any fees including luggage. I was just told by a coworker that she was told in Orlando by airtran that she couldn't use the credit. Anyone have experience with this? There are 5 of us, so I need to be prepared if I will have to pay this. We won't fly again before the credit expires, so it would just factor in with how strict we are with how much luggage we check. With three kids it would be alot easier to check luggage than to deal with a carryon for everyone if you kwim.

Thanks!!!

We have flown with Airtran twice with a credit and have used the money to pay for our luggage both times. I did make sure the credit was in an A+ account. The credit can only be used at the airport and not at the RAC desk, If using Magical Express, you will have to take your luggage on the bus with you to MCO and use your credit to pay for your bags at the Airtran desk there. It was very easy and no big deal at all. I will say that at our local airport LEX, when I said that I wanted to use my A+ account to pay for our bags the lady had to ask the person next to her to show her.

You indicated that you had a credit from a price drop. If I book on Airtran and their price drops before my trip, they will give me a credit for the difference?

I had several flight price drops for our May/June 11 trip giving me enough credit to pay for zone one seats and bags each way for 4 of us.

If they have put your credits on your A+ account you have to check the bags at the airline counter and tell them to use your credit for baggage fees. Pretty simple. We did this on the way down since we needed to drop the bags off anyway.

On the return we preferred to use RAC since we had an evening flight and didn't want to have to store our bags and haul them through the airport. You have to call Airtran and ask them to transfer your credits to your reservation number. Then I did online check in through my phone sometime after the 24 hour mark. When you get to luggage, it just shows zero for the fees. At the RAC desk the next day I just told them I used credits for the luggage fee and they didn't question it. I assume when they log in it showed I had already checked in 4 people and 4 bags.

Or you can opt to use the counter to check in at MCO and use them from your A+ account.

For the 2nd poster. Yep. Just call them and tell them your flight has gone down. You have to be and A+ member, but it's free to join if you haven't already. You also need to tell them you'd like to keep your seat assignments if you have paid for them. I got credits about 5 times for the same 2 flights and twice they also refunded my seats....and I had to go select them again.

Thanks everyone!!

Trying2photo, like the PP said it is very easy to get a credit with airtran. Just give them a call. I have had my account credited twice. It took maybe 15-20 minutes to complete it, but it was worth it.
