I am so mad, did not know who to scream at first. I am not leaving till November but they changed arrival from the early afternoon to the evening. This ruins my 1st day plans!! I now have to quickly find a new flight to get reimbursed. Ugh!! They did not even notify me, I just went to look up my flight information online, presto a new time.

There's a very good chance it could change again before your trip. I've seen all the airlines do this (except Southwest).

Happened a bunch with me on Delta last spring and with Airtran for my October trip... in fact, I have never had a flight stay exactly the same in all of my flights on many different airlines....

Just another reason we only fly SWA :thumbsup2

They don't have to notify you, the onus is on the pax to check their flights.
Sounds pretty unbusiness like to me, but, that is the way it works.

Most of the better airlines will notify passengers of itinerary changes, three weeks prior to flight time.

Remember, folks: When you engage an airline for a flight, they're promising to carry you from Point A to Point B on a specific DAY, not at a specific time, nor in a specific seat, nor on a specific type of airplane. That kind of service would be so much more expensive.

Much depends on your definition of "better airlines". :)
RE: Your second paragraph, ITA!!!!

Search Airtran site for a better flight time. Call them and tell them you want to move to that flight. As long as there is availability they should move you at no cost. This has always been my experience with them.

We had a schedule change on AirTran and I was called. :confused3 We ended up getting to take an earlier flight out and a later return - both of which were sold out in the Wendy's/AirTran promotion - so their schedule change worked to our favor.

Request different flights and sate "rule 240".

RIGHT OF THE AIR CARRIER AND LIMITS ON LIABILITY FOR DELAY
OR FAILURE TO PERFORM SERVICE, INCLUDING SCHEDULE
CHANGES, SUBSTITUTION OF ALTERNATE AIRCRAFT AND REROUTING

A. AirTran will endeavor to transport the passenger and baggage with reasonable dispatch, but times shown in timetables or elsewhere are not guaranteed and form no part of this contract.
B. The agreed stopping places are those places shown in AirTran’ timetables as scheduled stopping places on the route. AirTran may, without notice, substitute alternative carriers or aircraft and, if necessary, may alter or omit stopping places shown on the timetable.
C. Schedules are subject to change without notice. AirTran is not responsible or liable for failure to make connections or for failure to operate any flight according to schedule, or for a change to the schedule of any flight. Under no circumstances shall AirTran be liable for any special,
incidental or consequential damages arising from the foregoing (including the carriage of baggage) whether or not AirTran had knowledge that such damages might be incurred.
D. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, AirTran cannot guarantee that the passenger's baggage will be carried on the flight if sufficient space is not available based on the sole determination of AirTran.
E. AirTran will not provide or reimburse passengers for expenses incurred due to delays or cancellations of flights.

(p/s - all the more reason to use a travel agent! We get instant notification in our booking systems when there is a schedule change and we notify our clients of said change and also take on the task of finding an acceptable flight time for the client. BTW - I was not notified about my Airtran schedule change last May because I was a t.a. I booked just like anyone else would using the Wendy's/Airtran promotion.)

Rule 240 was an old FAA regulation, which no longer applies. Some airlines (not AirTran) added the rule into their own Contracts of Carriage. Regardless, it applied to schedule interruptions once your itinerary started. It didn't cover flight schedule changes beforehand.

My flight times for my Sept 9th trip were changed also a couple of months ago. I called Air Tran and was allowed to change to an earlier flight with no extra charge.

AT has changed flights over 5 times & moved same flight up departing 8 hours earlier in the worst instance we've experienced.

They do insist that everyone who has registered an email address gets notice  , I think I have one time.

You are permitted to change your travel arrangements, including cancelling the flight altogether & getting a refund or, if a vouchered fare, able to rebook within original deadline period of using the voucher.

They are a low cost carrier & their service reflects it...basic, adequate service, nothing more.

why use a TA for things you can do yourself? Personally, I am more than capable of booking flights, cars, rooms, etc and also more than capable of checking on said bookings. Most of the folks here are very travel savy and are more than capable.

I'm sorry - that was a rather snotty attacking a simple comment I had in ( )'s. My comment was in NO way insulting to anyone. Have I done something to offend you in the past? Shall I ask your profession and ask why it's needed? I'm sure it's something I'm perfectly capable of myself as well - or have no need for in my life.

Airtran did say they would change my flight, but their is no flights to get me to Disney earlier on Saturday. I am considering leaving the night before and staying at a cheap hotel off property. I might make out better than ruining a whole day.

I have never had a problem with a flight schedule changing ever before. Since I almost 2 months out I may wait a week or 2 before making a final decision. The flight price was a great deal...can't find anything cheaper elsewhere... been looking and feel stuck. Airtran will refund, but than I won't get to Disney. A hotel less than $100 will seal the deal if clean and comfortable. :smooth:

For a clean, comfortable, and inexpensive hotel, try Priceline - but check out the Hotel FAQ at www.biddingfortravel.com first.

I booked the only non-stop flight between Bloomington, IL and Orlando on Airtran for October. A week after I bought my ticket, Airtran dropped the non-stop flights on all days except Saturday, and they had me arriving at ~ 10 p.m.! I called and had them put me on earlier flights.

Air Tran has not notified me yet..but, I checked my flight for December and noticed it changed only a couple of days after I made it...I now have a 4 1/2 lay over in Atlanta....I guess, like you said...they will probably change it several times until then...So, there is no use calling them up now to see what I can do...The flight numbers and times I printed out earlier when I purchased the ticket on line..don't even exist any more... :confused3 :sad2:

About making plans for the evening you arrive, don't make anything that you couldn't live with if it had to be cancelled. My flight times weren't changed by the airline but a thunderstorm did us in! We should have been in Orlando by late afternoon but didn't arrive till almost 2 AM. Talk about messing up evening plans try also the next day, it is hard to get 7 yr olds up at 7 when they don't hit the hotel till 3:30 ( or 50 yr old DH's) ended up having our day at the pool first instead of in the middle of the week.
