Can you upgrade to business class online or does it need to be done at the airport? Are you able to use the credits you have with the airline for these upgrades- currently I have $160 in credit that I know will go to waste if I don't upgrade. Is it worth it?

Thanks for any help. I did find the cost per person on the site but was kind of confused on if I can do it online

People have reported that you can upgrade to business class when you check in online at the 24 hour mark, using a credit/debit card. You may need to call reservations and ask what the procedure is for using AT credits - those might need to be processed over the phone or at the airport.

If you upgrade to business class, is it for both planes if you have a change of planes on the way to your destination?

I finally gave in and called- if I want to use the credits I have to call at the 24 hour mark and do it on the phone. I am sure I will get charged the phone fee- but emailed to ask that. I can do it online an pay by credit card. I am not sure what I will do. But you can upgrade online at the 24 hour mark but to use credits you call in.

With AirTran upgrades with Reward points you can call anytime the day before your flight. It does not have to be at the 24 hr time frame. I did it at 12:01am the day before, as there were only 4 business class seats left for my trip to LA in Aug. and I really wanted business for a 6 hr flight. No phone fee.

If you use the upgrade at the 24-hour mark, there is a charge per segment. As I recall, the length of each segment determines the cost, either $49, $69, or $99 per segment.

Unfortunately, as we want to upgrade now instead of counting on seats being available at the 24-hour mark and we have paper tickets (yes, paper tickets) for our next flight, we must call in to upgrade.

If you don't have paper tickets what do we use? all I have is my receipt...when do i get tickets or do I just need boarding pass...??

Few people have paper tickets nowadays. We wouldn't except that Travelocity sent them to us because our round trip was on two different airlines. (And they're really unhandy because we need to go to the airport for new tix whenever we make changes.) US Air has declined to print new tix, saying they'll take care of it on the day of travel. Their agents at the airport did give us a print out of the changes. Travelocity has declined to process the upgrade to business class on AirTran, sending us to the airport again.

When you travel, you will need only the boarding passes, whether you print them out at home or get them at the airport. Most airlines' kiosks require either the PRN (passenger record number, or confirmation number on your receipt) or the credit card on which the tickets were charged (some accept your driver's license) to recall your itinerary and print the boarding passes.

If you're using A+ Rewards credits, the upgrade would apply to both planes. Same number of credits (4) for a connecting flight as a non-stop.

I did the upgrade this morning online. Got seat in business class...very easy to do. Has to be exactly 24 hours prior to check in ...now 1 thing off the list and many to go including packing before heading to Indy tonight!:cool1:
