In searching for the best airfare I've limited myself to Sanford and Orlando. Are there other options within an hour or so to WDW by car?

Thanks,
Bill From PA

You can try Melbourne, but your options are VERY limited--Delta and USA3000, only.

I agree!

I think that Tampa is a very good alternative. While the airport is much smaller than Orlando, it does serve several airlines and is easy to get on your way to Orlando from its location just off I-275. In the past two or three years I've used JetBlue and Southwest from the northeast to Tampa and have been pleased with the cost. It seems to me that rental car cost might be a little higher than Orlando, but I've used Priceline a couple of times with fairly low bids being accepted.

Tampa International is probably a little bit more than an hour from the Disney area (particularly so if you're travelling I-275 during a rush hour period) but not by much if the travel lanes are clear.

I also say Tampa. I believe you can often get cheaper fares than to MCO. Just watch out for the Tampa drivers. They are crazy!

There's also Clearwater-St. Pete's (PIE). But of all the Fl. airports we've used, I prefer Tampa. It's SUPER user friendly, easy to navigate and the drive to WDW is easy. Many rentals cars are onsite, too.

Thanks for all the leads, guys and gals. My productivity at work will probably go in the toilet, but I gotta find the bargains.

West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami all easy drives to Orlando.

We have flown home from TPA. It was such a nice easy drive. We easily stopped to fill the tank before getting into the busier city area and the tank still read full when we dropped the car off. We had a convertible that trip and even the kids enjoyed the ride. Top down, radio up, palm trees.... :cloud9:

I'd do it again in heartbeat to get great fares.

Bill,
right now there's a ding for Philly to Tampa for $58.(Sat until 5 pm CST) Not sure if the dates are good for you but I hope you see it in time!!!!:thumbsup2
good luck!

Tampa is probably the best bet. Daytona is good, but it's smaller and therefore usually more expensive, and the drive is just as easy.

Most definitely Tampa.

As for Daytona and Melbourne, both offer very limited service (like many small airports), and you, the customer will end-up paying for that.

IMO, Jacksonville is a tad too far north, for me...
