i did see a report just now on Sky that 10 thomson planes are due in to newcastle airport or maybe it was to edinburgh - or maybe glasgow....i don't remember....
in any case, 10 thomson planes...but they didn't say from where...

EDIT - ah my mate was having a laugh (we've been doing a gag this week about 'volcano insurance' - a Family Guy reference), pilots eh, funny guys

His airline, Easyjet have cancelled everything still til 1am, and the reports of the 10pm opening are still 'rumour' but he doesn't think London will be opening, as the above post says

According to the BBC all are opening but there will still be some restrictions in place. Wouldn't like to have been the first one out!

Flights coming into Heathrow from 10pm, 28 BA flights due in tonight. BA to run full long haul service from Heathrow and Gatwick from 1pm tomorrow. Good news! Good luck everyone trying to get home / get away!

That is out of date now - it was since that report that the CAA announced different parameters for what is safe and what is not - hence the change of stance.

They didn't. BA (and probably others) let the planes leave in the hope that the ban would be lifted by the time they reached the UK. However, there were contingencies in place had they arrived and found UK airspace still closed - like diverting to other European airports.

Hopefully good news. Plenty planes fly over where I stay - seem to be on the flight path - and there have been three since 11 pm that I saw from the kitchen. I must say, it was a beautiful sight and sound.

I haven't heard anything tonight, but it might just be they are using a different runway. We are on the flight path about half the time - depends on which runway and which direction they are taking off/landing in, as to whether they fly directly overhead or off in the distance! Hopefully though, I will start to see and hear some more come tomorrow morning/daytime!

on the special report on sky they said that the BA flights began flying with the hope that the airspace would be open by the time they arrived...
it said that flights took off from beijing and other very far away places hoping that by the time they reached british airspace, everything would be open...
