hi i am slightly worried about flying from manchester to orlando next september! I am getting married at disney and dont fancy having all my luggage being messed with! I have my wedding dress, exspensive camera etc! And i have heard they have been very grumpy about it all! i dont want it to spoil my honeymoon, has anyone gone from manchester to orlando since they have become stricter? Can anyone give me any information about it all? Thank you xxx

We flew out of Manchester to Orlando back in April and were picked out to have our bags opened and searched before we even checked in at Manchester! The Security guy was very nice and friendly and didn't mess our clothes etc about. He kept them very tidy. Didn't get stopped on entry to or exit from the US.

Hi,
We have just returned home yesterday and flew from Manchester.
We had no problems at all with the security checks, although i did get frisked going out and a full (well almost) body search on the way back. The rest of the gang didnt get so much as a second glance, I must have a dishonest face or something. lol

When i unpacked at home i found a notice to say that one of our cases had been opened and checked by customs. I didnt even notice it at first, they had left the case packed just as they had found it.

Hope this reasures you a little.

We always take out a video camera an expensive Digital SLR and laptop, so loing as you pack them in your hand luggage, no problems (you will have to take the laptop out of the case for the xray machine.
You can buy TSA approved locks for your cases.

thank you i feel much better now! i will but valuables in my hand luggage so its only my falut if something happens to them!

Thanks again! :cat:

Hi lorapinky, we are flying out a week Friday for our wedding at Disney in a couple of weeks and know exactly how you feel. Im not putting my dress in the luggage hold, have bought a travel box for it which also will be a nice keepsake to keep it in when we get home, it fits in with Virgin's hand luggage so should be ok.

Have a great wedding.

Lisa

good luck with your wedding!!! Please let me know if all goes well, where did you get the box from to hold your dress?

Have a great wedding!!! :bride: :groom:

A company called The Empty Box Company, they do all kinds of boxes but the travel box as its called is the exact size to go with Virgin on their hand luggage sizes and you can keep your dress in the box after the wedding is over, its a little pricey at £50 but well worth it, the box is very sturdy with a carrying handle.

thank you! i will have a look now! Good luck with your wedding! Please let me know how it goes! :cheer2:

I took my wedding dress as hand luggage and had it packed in a special box too!! The box was slightly bigger than the hand luggage allowance but the airline were fine when I explained it was my wedding dress!! :cheer2:

Word of warning about the dress box - not for travelling but when you get back.

My mum bought me one of these to keep my dress in (which was very expensive dupion silk - if I say the wedding was 1990 you can guess the size of the skirt!) as the acid free tissue would keep it safe. However, the pot pourri included in the box somehow got free from the bottom layer and onto the dress and when I refolded it last time (as you have to do from time to time to stop it marking along the folds) there were little brown spots where the pot pourri had touched it. The marks are very small (and I don't have a daughter to inherit the dress) but if they still provide pot pourri either throw i away or tie it into a piece of gauze to keep it away from your precious dress.
