Airport to Downtown Disney on a Friday

My family is headed down to Orlando for a family event this upcoming weekend. We are arriving at MCO just after 4:00PM Friday afternoon, will pick up the rental car (from National) and make our way to our hotel in the Downtown Disney Area (Doubletree Guest Suites 2305 Hotel Plaza Boulevard)

My question is how would you recommend we go from MCO to the hotel?

My thought would be to go south on Boggy Creek to 417 in an effort to avoid I-4 at that time of day. Take that to World Center Drive, and then on to Apopka Vineland Rd.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated

Either that way or stay straight on World Center Drive (AKA 536) into WDW and take the very first exit. Make a right at the bottom of the ramp. This is Buena Vista Drive and it'll bring you into the DD area from the west side.
I personally don't like the light at Crossroads because it gets so crazy and backed up which is the only reason I suggested this alternate route.

I had not even thought about doing it that way but it does make good sense

I second ILovePiglet's suggestion.......I personally think something will need to be done regarding the traffic congestion at the Crossroads area in the future. No matter what time of day.........it's always very congested.

Glad I stumbled across this thread. I am doing the same thing ... arriving at MCO on Friday afternoon and driving to DTD. Was wondering how to drive there.
