Airport to DL to cruise - how to get there?

Hey all!
Wondering if I can get some help from the transportation experts out there. We're booked on a cruise next fall (I know, I'm a planner), and I want to add on a few days at DLR before we go. We're experienced DLR travelers, and cruisers, but we've never combined the two.

So here's my problem: How do I get from the airport (LAX or SNA) to our hotel on Harbor, and then over to the port at Long Beach a few days later? I am looking for a combination of cheap and easy. I'd like to avoid renting a car, and it would be great if I didn't have to bring carseats for my 2 DDs.

Usually we just take a taxi to DLR or the cruise terminal, and I'm guessing that might be our best bet again? Does anyone know how much a taxi would be from Harbor to Long Beach? Or is there a bus service of some kind? I'd just love it if I didn't have to drag car seats on the cruise ship, the cabins are so small! Any help is much appreciated!

We are planing almost the same trip in Oct, except we are cruising first and then doing disney. We priced out our options, (shuttle and car rental) and renting a car came out the cheapest for us. Even paying for parking at the cruise terminal came out cheaper than spending the $30 per person per way for the cruise shuttle from the airport. We are staying at a vacation rental so we don't have the option of using a hotel shuttle.

Let me know too, I'm thinking about doing this in the summer of 2016, spend 4 nights at the Hojo and get 4 day park hoppers, then take a 4 day cruise to Mexico to unwind. I have used DK Livery in the past, and they were good. Wonder what the price would be?

Wow, sounds like you got a great deal on a car rental! Is this for a shorter cruise? We are going on a 7 night Mexican Riviera, so the parking alone would be more than $100. Still, if we got a good rate on a car, that might be worth it... Who did you book your rental through?

Thanks Jack and Midnightred as well! I will look at both of those options!

How old are the kids? Ignoring Canada laws and focusing on California, if they are of an age and maturity where boosters for a short car trip here and there are appropriate, look into the Bubble Bum booster seat. They weigh a pound each and are very convenient. But, of course, only if the girls are of appropriate age and maturity for boosters.

We got a car rental though Alamo. I got a really good deal, not sure how I got it so cheap. We are on a 4 day cruise to mexico.

Older DD will be 6, but our littlest will actually be celebrating her 2nd B-day in DLR if we can make this work. So she will still definitely need a big car seat. If we rent a car though, I could bring them on the plane and then just leave them in the car while we are on the cruise. We'll figure out something! There is just a lot of gear involved in taking them on both types of vacations! I also might ditch our stroller in the rental car if we end up doing that. The option is sounding more and more appealing if I can get a good price on a rental!
