airport question regarding pins

Will I have any problems going thru security with the disney pins I have for my little girl to trade? I would hate for them to just keep them... just curious.

They will not keep them. To be sure, just pack them in your checked baggage, not carry on.

We've never had a problem either. However, we've only packed them in our checked luggage as well. Not sure if they would be an issue going in your carry-on.
I'm going to move this to the Transportation board as I'm sure we'll get all the flying experts to give a firm answer.

I packed my pins on my carry on last May. About 5 minutes before we went thru security it hit me what a stupid thing this was to do. Expected to be pulled over for a complete search but I got waved right thru. Maybe the security guard on the x-ray machine was a pin collector and recognized what he was looking at.

We just got back from Disney World on Monday, Sept. 12 and when we went down I had 4 pins in my backpack that I brought on the airplane and no one said nothing to me. Then I the way home I had maybe about 20 pins in my backpack and still no one said anything to me. So I would think you would be fine to have them in your carry-on. In fact I would be to worried about my pins if I had to put them in my other bag that goes in the belly of the plane.

We were there for 10 days at the end of June. We through from Seattle and each of us had our pins in our carry-ons. There was no problem.

Never a problem having the pins in a carryon.
Most airports today, when the see the pins, they say, guess you are going to WDW.

If you want to see your pins again DON'T put them in your checked luggage. Take them through security. They have seen so many pins at MCO they will look to see what is there and wave you on your way.

I have to echo what everyone has said since kilee moved the thread here. General feeling among Disney pin collectors is carry-on over checked luggage. If they're in your checked luggage and the luggage is searched, there's the danger that something could happen and the pins could be lost.

Last time DW and I flew to WDW a few years ago (man, has it been that long??), we had our pins (including a couple of books of traders and a large amount for lanyard trading) in our carry-on. Before the bag went through the scanner, we let the TSA agent here in Richmond know about the large collection of lapel pins in the bag and that they'll probably want to hand-check it, which they did. It wasn't that big of a deal and the TSA agents were cool about it. As Safetymom said, so many go through MCO that security will just wave you through.

We always have about 400 pins with us and we always carry them on. 7/04 I had so many illnesses coming home that I put them in my checked luggage. What a mistake. I got home and it stated that they checked my bag and about 100 pins were missing. Very devasating when you spend a lot of time trading. I ended up having to buy some of the pins on ebay because they were sets. I will never put my pins in the checked luggage again. At MCO they see so many pins that they do wave you on. It is actually the airport that you initially fly out of that questions you because they don't know about pin trading.
