Airport in your hometown, convenient?

We are about 20 minutes away from what I guess is technically an airport. During the tourist season they have 3 flights a day leaving for Detroit. Sometimes they even have a flight to Minneapolis/St Paul. Several years ago they had a major expansion that doubled the number of gates.....there are two now. Though I have only ever seen one being used. Some Delta partner runs the two flights a day to Detroit though I can't remember who it is.

We normally don't fly out of there because to catch a flight there from Detroit normally costs double what the rest of your flight costs. The Detroit airport is 5 hours away and that is where most people fly out of. There is a somewhat larger regional airport about 1 1/2 hours from here but even that still costs a lot more. Grand Rapids is about 3 1/2 hours away.

We are flying out of our local airport when we head to WDW in October which I am a little nervous about. I'm very excited not to have to make the 5 hour drive to Detroit and I'm really thrilled to have free parking for the 2 1/2 weeks we will be gone, but I have had a lot of trouble flying out of that airport in the past. The last 3 times I flew out of there, which granted, was several years ago, my flight was cancelled or delayed so long I missed my connection. The problem is the airport is so small if they have "crew problems" or mechanical problems you're up a creek because they don't have replacements.

We shouldn't expect weather delays though I swear during some ugly weather last week I saw some raindrops that looked opaque and rather fluffy and we aren't leaving until the 21st and when I was a kid we had to design Halloween costumes around snowsuits because there was often patches of snow when we went trick or treating so who knows. I will keep my fingers crossed.

About 20 minutes away, most of that on the highway. My only beef is that the flight time/pricing combo to Orlando is usually not the best. I'm lucky that there is another airport that is only 90 minutes away, mostly highway, that typically has great flight time/pricing packages. For my trip in October I am flying out of that one (will arrive in Orlando at 9:55 am) and flying back to my home airport.

From our New York home, the Albany County Airport is only a 15 minute drive. From our Florida home, the Orlando International Airport is an hour drive.

15 minutes from MCO but ughhhhh once you get there. Sorry Dis-goers, but all the visitors make it a pretty miserable airport to deal with as a home airport.

I so wish they'd reconfigure their security lanes as it's a total cluster. Especially with all the passenger over the carry on limit with extra shopping bags, etc.

Also, it's not that big so I'm not sure what takes them so darn long to get the luggage to the belts. Slowest airport for baggage!

About 45 minutes to Atlantic City ACY
Hour to Philadelphia PHL
Hour and 45 minutes to Newark EWR
Maybe 45 minutes to Trenton TTN, but I've never flown from there.

All assuming normal traffic conditions.

15 min drive on the highway to PBI. We love being so close. It's a little pricier than the Ft Lauderdale airport which is about 45 min away but we prefer it nevertheless.

Closest major airport is in Seattle, 102 miles away, taking approx. 1 hour 45 minutes.
Convenient major airport is in Portland, 142 miles away, taking approx. 2 hours 30 minutes.

Seattle airport is a pain in the rear to get to. Busy, busy, busy as soon as you hit the Tacoma area. Parking is expensive at the airport, and it is just super busy.

Portland airport is more laid back. They have long term parking with shuttle busses to take you to the airport. Yes, it is busy, but not like Seattle (a major hub for Alaska and Hawaiian flights).

We prefer the extra 45 minute drive down south rather than the stop and go traffic and merging onto a chaotic highway (that leads to the airport).

I would say out of our last 8 flights, 2 were out of Seattle and 6 were out of Portland.

My dream is to live within an hour of an airport. I love to travel!!

From our UK home, London Gatwick is 30 minutes away.
From our Florida home, Sarasota Bradenton is 15 minutes away but is only useful for US flights whereas Tampa is under an hour and has direct flights to London Gatwick.

Like several others here, Boston is the closest large airport to me but Manchester NH is a bit closer. It's also smaller, less crowded, easier to get around, less expensive to park, faster through security, and overall much more convenient. Depending on the destination it can also be massively more expensive - my next flight to Los Angeles is literally $115+ more per seat from Manchester, so I'm willing to deal with Logan to save hundreds of dollars.

Nearest airport is Youngstown - it's about 15 minutes - but the only airline that flies out of Youngstown is Allegiant which has VERY limited flight destinations. For some reason they only fly to Myrtle Beach from the middle of May until mid-September. They do fly to Florida year round but only twice a week in the fall/winter/spring. Twice in the past year and a half Allegiant has "postponed" my flight to the next day causing me to lose a day of vacation.

Pittsburgh Airport is an hour away. Akron and Cleveland are both just over an hour.

Atlanta airport is 45 minutes away from where we live. That doesn't bother me but I had to drive an hour to an hour and a half just to get to work every day because the traffic is so bad here.

But where I grew up in MN it was an hour 45 minutes to 2 hours away depending on traffic. We would drive to Minneapolis the night before our flight - we still do that when we visit family there.

Is the rabbit still there? I was working a contract job (close to US-50) and once flew to Seattle from SMF. I flew Alaska, and it was pretty painless - from paying $9/day for long term parking to the easy access to the gate. Never had to deal with any train, although I did the last time I flew to SeaTac.

Yes the red rabbit that they paid $50,000 for is still there. Although they did have to budget some extra money to clean it!
And in the other terminal, the tower of old luggage in a cart is still there.

Yes, the red rabbit is still there. I actually like the new terminal. The parking lot to pick someone up is right there, they have a few kiosks, a bar, and a few eateries for those who are waiting for passengers. They have rocking chairs to sit by the windows to watch the planes. Since SW is in the new terminal, I haven't been to the old terminal in years. Since I live in the north side of town, it takes me about 15 minutes to get to the airport.

I think Southwest is negotiating to move back to the "old" terminal. Too expensive in the new one. I worked at SMF in the early 1970's so both the terminals are new to me. Back when there was Hourly, Daily, Long term and FREE parking lots. If Sacramento was a connector airport, I could see the need for lots of eating options, but everyone going there is heading out and not staying.
I just liked the fact that the gates used to be so much closer with the old terminals.

It was way, way out there though for me. I ended up cutting through Orangevale to get there.

I remember when I first started working out there, I took Watt to Elverta Road to get there, not the freeway! Used to go in the back way.

Closest "real" airport is about 2-1/2 hours away. We do have a small local airport, but no commercial flights come in or out, only small private planes.

We have a regional airport that is about 15 minutes away. It only has 3 flights a day and they go to Chicago. So if we can find a good deal from Chicago to CA or FL, we'll go this route and save ourselves some driving time.

The closest airport that goes basically anywhere you'd want to go is about 4 hours away. I would LOVE to live within about 30 minutes of a decent airport.

I can (and do) walk to my closest airport. It only has regional flights, but it actually covers many of the places I go and is expanding. About 20 minutes drive to a major international airport.
