We are leaving from Newark NJ and flying into Orlando. What kind of ID do we need at the airport.? Do we need picture ID's? Also what kind of ID for children ages 9 and 12. Thanks for any help....Janet

Just a picture Id such as drivers licence or state ID for adults and chances are you won't need on for the kids.I took my kids ages 4 and 6 and they never said anything. You might want to call the airlines and ask them if they need ID and if the do then a birth certificate will do

We've flown at least a couple of times a year with our two kids, now age 10 and 14. They never need an ID, but they won't let you past security without a photo ID and a boarding pass. My oldest DD has flown alone a couple of times, where I check her in and walk her down to the gate, and since she's a minor, she has never needed an ID. If you want to be positive sure, call and ask your airline, or go to its website and look under FAQ, etc.

Have a great trip!

During our trip in December we were told by airport security that children under 12 are exempt from pad down/searches. (We were lucky enough to be flagged when we switched our flights during the blizzards Dec 6th ;) ). Don't know if 12 is a benchmark for needing any ID- seems a little young to have any sort of picture ID.

I always make my kids a small ID about the size of a business card. I use Microsoft word to create it. I use a small photo that I scanned in and add their name, age, date of birth, hair color, eyes, etc. After I print it, I "laminate" it by putting clear packing tape on each side. They carry one and I carry one (in case they get lost, I can just hand the ID to security and not have to try to talk while I panic)

I've had alot of comments from airport personnel that it's a great idea.

Especially when they were younger and didn't talk well, I would worry that they would get lost in an airport and no one would have a clue where to start on finding out who they were. How would security know where they were from?

Children are not required to show ID until they are 18 years of age. :)
