Wawa is in the process of building a store on 436 and Lee Vista and will keep its low gas prices which will be about 2.00 a gallon cheaper then the 2 closest stations to OIA. Anyone that flies and rents a car would benefit.

Good call. I have found that if you go just a bit farther north of MCO, you will find regularly priced gas.....

All you need to do is drive about 1-1.5 miles past north of these ripoff gas stations to find normal priced gas. 7-11(2 of them) and racetrack immediately come to mind.

True but the average traveler wouldn't know that. Up until Wawa opens the 2 pita stations are convent to most of the rental returns except for their prices.

Do you know this for a fact? How do you know they won't charge a lot too?

We've always filled up at the Hess station on 536 @ I-Drive just before getting on 417. Prices are always in line with what we pay at home & tank is always still full when we drop the car off.

Our last trip we filled up near DTD. Topped it off as much as we could and had not problem with National. The gauge did not even move by the time we got to the airport.

Good point. I used to tell my renters about that price gouging company and inform them of the alternatives. I suspect they also operate the shell station down near Disney on 535. Same horrid prices and non disclosure of them and the average person does not look at the pump. And, there is one on John Young pkway near 50.

We used to go about one mile down from the 535-536 intersection. The prices were much better.

That Shell on 535 never ceases to amaze me with their prices!!!!

It was in Wawas statement on local 6 news that the store was going to be priced in line with the rest of the Orlando area stores. Here's the link

I believe the statement. Wawa usually has the lowest gas prices in many markets. There's plenty of opportunity for them to price gouge if they wished in Jersey Shore resort areas, but they don't. So I don't think they will in Florida either.

We have a couple here in Orlando already and they are on par or lower than the gas stations around here.

In 2008, the only time I ever did the fly-drive option, I avoided the airport gas scam by going to a Circle-K that was about a mile south of the 417 interchange with Boggy Creek Road. Filled up at "normal" prices and then zipped back up Boggy Creek to turn the car in. I'm not sure that plan made a lot of sense, since the Thrifty rental return was up closer to 528. But I felt like a slick customer at the time. :thumbsup2

I vaguely recall some posts here about reasonably priced stations on the 528 approach to the airport. That 7-11 on Tradeport Dr. is still there, probably. I've made a mental note to use that if I ever need to fuel up near the airport again. My concern in '08 was that if I fueled up too close to Disney, Thrifty would examine my receipt and say, "Aha! You filled up more than X miles away! Under the contract, the car technically isn't filled up now." But from what I read here, it seems like nobody ever has that experience.

We usually spend our last day at DTD and I just fill up at Hess across the street and head to the airport from there. I have never had a problem doing that.

The airport Wawa is having its grand opening tomorrow! Take *that*, price-gougers.

How do you spell relief? R O L A I D S

Returning to airport from Disney get on I-4 East (northeast). Then onto 528 (Beach line) east. Watch for toll signs and take what looks like an exit ramp to pay if using cash (about $1.00). Get off 528 at its exit 9 (Tradeport). Left and cross under. Nice cheap gas station is right there. Leaving gas station side exit take two lefts and get into middle lane. Required right onto McCoy, little more than a mile is 436 (Semoran) and airport entrance.

One of the risks of flying on an empty stomach is more flatulence that becomes more uncomfortable as the plane gets to cruising altitute. Fortunately by then the seat belt sign will be off. Sometimes things work out better if you sit down in the airplane rest room for a few minutes before returning to your seat.
