Hi all! We have a 5:35pm flight to MCO, which means we'll be there around 3:50pm or so to go through security. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on expensive airport food for dinner before our flight (nor do I want to eat fried icky whatever or a limp and wilty overpriced salad...). Any suggestions on an easy, packable meal that will make it through security? It's just me and DH... no kiddos to worry about (although he's a kiddo sometimes... :lmao:)

TIA!!! :thumbsup2:worship:

We got subs and were able to bring them through security. So it seems sandwiches might work.

You obviously won't be able to bring drinks, though.

we take sandwiches--either store bought or homemade--and cheese and fruit...I also hate airport food..overpriced, not very good. I think sandwiches and snacky type food are the best choices due to ease of eating on board.

cheese, fruit, nuts, crackers, and maybe a mini candy bar or two would make a very nice light meal and should make it through security just fine.

Sandwiches seem to be okay. Just dont bring anything smelly like salami, egg salad or tuna fish. Your neighbors wont appreciate it. I usually bring crackers, cheeses and pretzels. But my flight is only two hours and I live close to the airport. So I only need a light snack to carry me over until I can get a decent meal.

You can bring anything solid that isn't a liquid or gel. Sandwiches are great but put the condiments on before same for the cream cheese on a bagel. Salads are OK but again put the dressing on, don't bring a container with it. Can't bring any freezer packs either. I brought a sandwich and choc cake from POP on the last trip.
I wouldn't worry a lot about the smell a bit but not tremendously. One flight that was torture was a group got on with bags from McD's and it was torture cause those fries smelled so good and I was on a quick connection and was starving! (and hadn't had time to get anything)

GREAT suggestions! Has anyone had any issues of putting things like mustard or hummus or mayo on a sandwich... since that's liquid-ish? Or does TSA not really pick through your food? :lmao::eek:

Nope not if it is on, it is perfectly OK. You just can't have a separate container or packet. I have heard folks put the packets in there clear bags they hand the agents to check but I'm not sure how many things you can have in there, so I find it easier just to put the condiments on. Hummus will work because there is no problem with peanut butter.

If you have condiment packs just make sure they follow the liquid guidelines and but them in your quart size baggie which can be full. We have brought subway before.

In situations like this we order from our favorite deli down the street. They pack the sandwiches for travel and we stop off and pick them up on our way to the airport. We use a small lunch-size cooler as one of our carryons, and add a bag of frozen grapes as "ice". (You can also take empty baggies with you and get ice from an airside restaurant at your home airport, if you prefer real ice.)
