I broke my wrist last month (slipped on ice) and have had the plaster off but I have to wear a splint at the moment. I was hoping not to have to wear one on holiday but I can't see that happening so I wondering about what to do at the airport as my splint has a long metal piece in it that comes out and I am concerned about security. I know it sounds daft but I am concerned that they will tell me I cannot take it through so not sure what to do about it.

I'm almost 100% sure that it would be fine, but maybe someone else more experienced with this will be able to come along and help

You might have to take the splint off during security, to have it go through xray but I'm (again) not sure. I'm just thinking you may have to as I had to put the crutches I was using through xray

Maybe have a letter from your GP if you're really worried?

Sorry, I've probably not helped any! :upsidedow

This ^^^ That's the worst you can expect is to be asked to take it off and even then, they may not worry about it. There are thousands of people with metal on them who go through security. I cannot 'take mine off' as it is inside my jaw. Often it has beeped and I have had to have an extra scan. They usually asked me if I have anything that could have caused it and I tell them. Once or twice they gave me a pat down but have always been very nice about it. They are so used to this and you shouldn't worry about it. In fact the last couple of years I have sailed through without any beeps at all so perhaps their systems are accommodating these things a little better now.

To be clear, if you have to remove it, it will be so they can check the splint. Once they are happy it will be given back to you.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, as it comes out easily I was a bit worried but I will just leave it in and see what happens.

My DD has a myo electric prosthetic (artificial) arm - lots of wires and a battery pack.

We just put it through the x ray machine in a tray - like you would an electrical item. Never had a problem. I do carry a letter from the dr but never needed it.
