Okay I hope this is the correct forum and I hope someone has an answer for me. I have a two part question.

Here is my situation.. My sister is getting married in key west in April (we live in PA) and I'm all like well if we are gonna be in Florida I wanna go to disney :lmao: so you can only get to key west from Miami or Orlando airport basically. I want to fly down to the wedding and have a stop in Orlando on the way back go to the world for a few days than fly back home.

Is it cheaper to do a round trip ticket vs breaking it down to all one way tickets?

Is there anyway to get a round trip ticket but break up days during layovers?

I hope this made sense to someone cause I'm confused lol

What's the cheapest way to do this? I'm poor lol.

1. Use Kayak or Orbitz and find out what airline has the flights you need. Then call the airline directly on how to handle it.

2. Go over to the Transportation Forum and ask there.

I would check one way fares to Miami for the wedding. You have to rent a car to drive to Key West anyway.

Rent a car at Miami, returning at MCO. After wedding drive up to WDW. Check airfare one way home from MCO.

Kayak is a good site to check fares.

Good luck!

Buy two one way tickets and rent a car.

Buy a ticket from Pa to MIA and then another ticket from Orlando to PA.

In my experience, RT tickets are no cheaper than 2 one-way tickets. However, if you need to change one of the flights, it is much easier to have 2 one-way tickets than it is to have to change an entire RT.

You cannot purchase a RT ticket and then use the layover city as stopover point. To do that, you would want a multi-city ticket, with each leg being a separate flight.

Unfortunately, there is no *cheap* way to do this. Easter is April 20th. The week prior to and the week following it will be peak traveling fares. Spring breaks lead up to that window and airfares to warmer locations tend to be pretty pricey because of demand.

Hi just a dumb question but were are flying from in PA? Allegiant air may be a option for down and south west back .

I'm not sure we usually go out of Dulles in DC

And thanks everyone for the advice. I was trying not to rent a car. When I look up round trip it has stops in Orlando but I just don't know how to get that one flight home pushed back. I'll call the airlines and see what they say. Thank you again

That's what I was afraid of. Thank you!!

Her wedding is the 28th I was planning on flying that morning and staying the night than flying to Orlando the next morning and finishing the week at disney. I have triple A and maybe they can help me but my past experience with them well weren't well haha

I would never travel the same day as a big event. Too many things can happen to disrupt your travel. If there is any possible way to fly in the night before, do it! You don't want to miss your sister's wedding because mechanical failure or bad weather prevented you from taking off on time the morning of the event.

That's true. She's not having the wedding until sunset and I was gonna fly out early morning but it might be something to consider. See the whole thing is hard anyways because I'm only allowed at the wedding and not the reception so I'm gonna be stuck in a hotel so I was trying to minimize my time to even be down there. And at first I wasn't even allowed to be at the wedding but my sister said the weddings fine but not the reception. It's because I have a kid and she wants no kids there period but I have no one to leave him with and she knows this. It's just a huge big mess and I'm trying to find a way to be there for her for only her wedding since that is all... Well beyond my mess lol thanks for the info. I have a lot to consider.

Keep in mind it is cheaper to fly during the week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are you best prices).

I also would never fly the morning of a big event like a wedding. Arrive at dinner time the night before, at the very least.

I personally enjoy flying Southwest because their fares are generally priced ok, they are more laid-back and fun, and I can check my bags for free (even though DH likes bringing them carry on - no chance for lost or damaged luggage).

Keep an eye out on Southwest for sales. I just ran a quick check and they have them as low as $150 from Dulles to Ft. Lauderdale, arriving Sunday night. Then, like PPs have suggested, rent a car, drive up to WDW after the wedding, and fly back from Orlando after your vacation.

I also like Southwest because if your fare goes down after you bought it, you can call and get a credit for the difference. Your next flight will be that much cheaper! :-)

Good luck - and have fun at your sister's wedding AND at WDW!!!!!

Well that sucks. If she wanted you there and still wanted the reception to be adult only, she should help make arrangements for child care for the reception.

But I understand why you would try to make it.

If I were me, I'd fly into Miami or FLL the evening before and get a hotel there and drive down to Key West on the day of the wedding. Hotels in KW are $$$$$.

It is a 3+ drive down to KW.

Shay-
If you are going to drive from FLL or MIA, I would drive in to KW the night before. I know it's more $$, but it's a lot less headache. That way, you get to walk around KW the next day, you're not in a hurry or worried and you can see enough to know if you'd like to go back. Take off the morning after the wedding.

Look on Trip Advisor for family-friendly things to do in KW.

If you don't want pay KW price, there are other Keys on the way down. Get a room on a key close to KW. In my experience that drive down is loooong. And when you have to be somewhere for an event, I find it's best to be as close as possible.

Yeah my main goal is not to drive. I get car sick and so does DS. We already have to drive to the airport. It does seem like the best option but idk. And I hate the ocean so being on an island is gonna send me into a panic. I was trying to minimize my time in key west lol

This is pretty much true for domestic travel, but for international travel, round trip tickets are cheaper.
The last time that I checked, Key West was still a part of the United States, as much as they would like to consider themselves to be separate. :rolleyes2

Do you have some sort of budget in mind for your travel? Flying 2 people all of the way into Key West from PA on a weekend is not going to be cheap. Sorry, but the other details (no kids at the reception, car sickness, hating the ocean) are just distractions. None of those issues is going to make it any more affordable. You've gotten some good suggestions on how to make it less painful to your budget but if you can't be flexible you will have to pay the price for it.

I don't blame you - that drive is a you-know-what! The bridges just make it worse, in my book.

We had (chose) to go to a relative's wedding near Atlantic City. We had zero interest in ACY. But we made the best of it. Went in on an early flight the morning before, ate breakfast in a hotel on the boardwalk. Walked boardwalk. Toured Ripley's. Bought souvenirs. Saw a couple of casinos (we don't gamble - just needed the A/C). Met DB & GF for dinner at our hotel. Saw a Cirque performance. Next day - wedding. Following day toured a local village w/shops. Flew home. You get the idea. Never-ever have to go back to ACY. For anything. Ever. :lmao:

And I said thank you for all suggestions. They were great. I just wanted to know what was cheaper really or a good way to do it just flying. If it can't be done cheaper without driving than okay. I was just explaining my situation as to why the suggestions wouldn't work for me but I did say thank you none the less. I am grateful I apologize if I didn't seem that way.
