Airplane tickets???

I agree with Marionette on this one. Usually O/W tix are the same as R/T. Years & years ago (30+ -ish) it was different, but now they are the same.

Honestly, if it were me, I wouldn't fly into FLL or MIA. That drive is something like 4 hours. It can easily become 6+ with traffic. I found it was cheaper (plus quicker & easier) to fly in to and back out of EYW. Take a taxi to your hotel, then walk or take cabs. Most people walk to the sights.

I would price it 3 legs: IAD -> EYW. EYW -> MCO. MCO -> IAD.

I would price flying in on Sunday + hotel 2 nights. I hate vacationing exhausted. Plus you can leave KW good & rested for WDW!!!! (The real goal here! lol)

This is what I think I would do:

Delta IAD -> EYW, Apr 27 dep 12:20pm - arr 5:10pm, $168.80 pp. (I would take the 7:50am-3:37pm flight, myself)
hotel 2 nights
Southwest EYW -> MCO Apr 29 dep 11:15pm - arr 12:20, $117 pp.
DME to WDW
Delta MCO -> IAD May 3, dep 10:30am - arr 3:30pm, $112 pp. OR
United MCO -> IAD May 4, non-stop dep 6:52pm - arr 9:01pm, $169 pp.

Hopefully the above makes sense. I would rather do a couple of layovers than drive. Even if "my itinerary" doesn't work for you, you might be able to modify it.

Also, while I was waiting for DS wedding to begin, I would go to Ernest Hemingway house, take the Conch Tour around, Fort Zachary, Mallory Square, etc.

Check out all the great stuff to do to kill a couple of days Trip Advisor. Not everything is right on the water. You have to do the "Southern Most Point" marker photo op, #43 :)

Thank you so much!! That actually sounds great.

And I was told I couldn't go from IAD to EYW non stop but it's nice to know I can. Adding it up sounds a little more than some round trip tickets I found but not by much!!! Thank you for the information!!! :)

Thre is a one hour layover on that route, but I would much rather do a 1 hour layover than a 4 hour drive!

IKWYM - there's a ton of stuff to do in KW for us non-bar-hoppers. :thumbsup2

PS - Avoid Duval Street with your son. :scared1:

Probably because those are all different airlines and two of those flights would be considered "direct". The price is also dependent upon your dates.

People sometimes take R/T flights and just never get on the last leg. You would then still have to book a second MCO -> IAD on your later return date, so the total price would still be more $$.

That would be another option.

Shay-
I'd like to point out that my plan does not require you to rent a car, so you won't have that expense.

The thing I like most is the 1 hour flight form EYW to MCO and them hopping on DME. So much better than driving all stinkin' day ;)

You know what - I like my plan so much I just might join you! :rotfl2:

Hop on the crazy train with me. You can be my tour guide ;)

And definitely making a hard clear mental note to stay away from Duval st.

I was scared about the whole trip (besides Disney of course that's my reward lol) and now I feel much better. Thank you! :)

LOL :goodvibes

That's true. She's not having the wedding until sunset and I was gonna fly out early morning but it might be something to consider. See the whole thing is hard anyways because I'm only allowed at the wedding and not the reception so I'm gonna be stuck in a hotel so I was trying to minimize my time to even be down there. And at first I wasn't even allowed to be at the wedding but my sister said the weddings fine but not the reception. It's because I have a kid and she wants no kids there period but I have no one to leave him with and she knows this. It's just a huge big mess and I'm trying to find a way to be there for her for only her wedding since that is all... Well beyond my mess lol thanks for the info. I have a lot to consider.

Based on the fact that you are going so far and can't go to the reception and hate the ocean, I wouldn't go.
I would send my regrets - even if it's for a sister.

I wasn't able to attend 2 of my sisters weddings and my BIL's 3rd wedding and no one in the family was mad at me for missing them.

This was my initial thought but my mom was all like you have to go it's your sisters wedding. And so I figured if I could go to disney after I would do it. Lol.

But not going is a possibility but I just don't want to regret not going. It's a hard decision.

It is a hard decision. We chose not to go to my BIL second wedding. Went to everything having to do with the first one. Second one was being held in Mexico in Puerto Vallarta. He had a local reception, which we gladly attended. Family never real forgave us for not attending the Mexico event :(

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of but my sister is making it difficult for me. But what am I to do. It her wedding so I will try my hardest and that's all I can do I guess.

It's a tough situation. My sympathies :hug:

I just read through your whole situation- you're jumping through an awful lot of hoops for your sister who doesn't seem very sympathetic to your needs. I hope she appreciates the fact that you are there, and the time, effort and money that you are taking to be there for the (very short, time-wise) ceremony.

After all that, you deserve a vacation to wdw!!! I hope your sister doesn't harp on the fact though that "she came to my wedding and stayed one day and then went to wdw for 3 times longer!!!" I have a family member that would see it that way, so if have to put out an explanation ahead of time that the reason were doing it is to make all the travel worth our while since we can only be with the family to celebrate at the ceremony.

If you go, then you need to put all of the "noise" behind you and attend your sister's wedding with a cheerful heart.

If you choose not to go because of the reasons that you stated, you need to accept that there will be family members who will hold it against you.

Very wise advise!

Is it possible to go without your son to the wedding, then meet up at Disney?

No friends you trust that want to go to Disney too?

I just don't understand this...if people want to plan and have a destination wedding, they need to realize that many friends/family can't/won't attend. There is no reason to be mad.
