As funny how the best made plans can blow up with a 2 year old. We practiced and practiced with the mask. He didn't seem to mine it the car or at home. No issues at all wearing his mask.

That was until we stepped on the plane. He gave us this look that said no and don't even try. But he was scared so I guess it's understandable. Couldn't practice on the plane.

Somehow, I'm not sure how we made it to Disney. No issues with the mask on the bus or on the skyliner. We depart on Wednesday so wish us luck on the return flight. I really don't want to have the flight attendants turn a blind eye. It's just not possible to force them to wear something they don't want on and sit still enough on a plane.

When my child was two years old, he had a major freakout on a plane ride and didn't want to sit in his own seat (he just wanted to be in my lap, which he clearly can't do at his age). At least twice a day during our vacation, I explained to him exactly what he needs to do when he's on the plane and he can do if he feels scared or sad (e.g. take a deep breath). While he was probably a little nervous, he was fine coming on the return flight home. I wish you luck but also a lot of kind, compassionate thoughts for you and your child.

Hugs & good luck! Maybe stickers and a handheld compact if they start to freak out about the mask being on? Tell them if they keep the mask on, they can put a sticker on the mask and look in the compact to see what it looks like?

Two year old's always find ways to surprise even the most prepared parents!!!! We have good friends who are taking their grandson for the first time and he refuses to wear a mask anywhere. They've decided to drive down which is cutting their time at disney down by a couple days. I would try the sticker idea above.... if that doesn't work remember you are not the only parent dealing with this. I hope you're enjoying your vacation with your little one.

I totally empathize with you and will always voice my absolute disdain at this stupid rule for 2 year olds. We are planning a trip in 3 weeks and most likely driving because I can’t expect my toddler to keep the mask on. It’s insanity and whoever came up with this rule for this age either never had a 2-year-old or forgot what it was like to have one.

I just returned from our trip, and we flew. I have a 3 year old. You are allowed to eat and drink on the plane. Tons of people of all ages are doing it. Your child can eat and/or drink for much of the flight. However, there may be times that he is asked to mask, such as when entering the aircraft or getting up to use the bathroom. Make sure he will tolerate the mask for these moments, but in my experience (YMMV) mask wearing was not particularly enforced during the flight due to eating and drinking. They're selling drinks and snacks! My kids were maskless and snacking for a lot of the flight. No one said a word to them.

I made my return trip and again he refused the mask. He kind of put it on but then took it off right off.

He's never been into stickers. Adding to that he's a little delayed in speaking. He loves snacks but apparently not on planes. I think the whole flying thing makes him nervous.

I want to call the mask requirement unfair but they did tell me about it in advance. It's just unfortunate that there is no way to really know how it will go until you actually get on the plane.

I totally empathize with you. I hate this rule. How did the plane staff treat you?

Thanks for the update.
It's so hard to do anything with little kids

No issues at all with the flight staff on the return trip. They made jokes with my son which helped brighten his day.

Are arrival one of the flight attendants didn't seem happy with us. But she never said anything. She would just look the other way every time she crossed are seats. Or maybe I read it wrong and she did like us and was conflicted on what to do. I would not want to be the one to blow the whistle on a child flying to Disney. I'll just be glad when this is all over. I'll not be flying again with the mask policy in effect.

We flew from FLL to JFK with my 2 year old. She can only stand wearing the mask for 5-10 mins at a time so we didn't bother putting one on her. There were no issues at all at the airports or on the plane (Delta).

She does look younger than a 2 year old though. The only person that knew she was over 2 was probably the TSA agent that checked our IDs. She does have a passport because we got her one when she was 8 months old for a cruise in December of 2019,

We had lollipops on the flight for our son. They take a long time to suck on and he was mask less most of the flight. It also helped with any ear issues. Good luck!

We are flying next month with our 2 1/2 year old. He will only wear a mask for a few min at a time.
I was a little less worried when the mask rules at WDW got more lax.
Now I am panicking a bit again that they are getting stricter again.
The lollipop idea is great! We will def be doing that on the plane. We only just started letting him have lollipops so that will be a nice treat.

We just got back Saturday from vacation, and had a four hour flight with a two year old. She wore her mask onto the plane and that was it and no one said anything. She napped and ate during that time and watched a movie, and our flight attendants were very sweet and attentive with our two young children both legs of the trip. So don’t worry!

On our flights 2 weeks ago you had to pull your mask down for bites or sips and then put it back up when chewing. They caught on to the “if I have food they won’t make me wear a mask” trick. And yes they enforced it, even for kids. This was on SW.

No matter what tricks you may come up with, you need to be prepared if they don't work. What will you do if the flight attendants tell you your child has to put up their mask between bites? Or wear their mask while they are sleeping? Are you ready to have that sort of struggle?

If you know your child absolutely won't wear a mask most of the time, then flying is not what you should be doing.

We have been on SWA, United and Frontier the past two weeks and didn’t have any of that with our two year old. Must depend on flight attendants.

Yeah, they are all over the place - on the trip to Las Vegas, not a peep about masking (although most everyone complied)...on the trip back, we got a 10 minute speech before takeoff and a "if you can't follow these rules, please leave the plane now". I think Southwest is really crew-dependent on this point, since both were Saturday flights...
