I love winter,,,so not yet
Which Amex do you have?I got that card last year. After getting all the bonuses in the first year it earns very little. I will keep it though as the free checked luggage benefit pays for it. In terms of earning points I get more from my Amex card even when booking Air Canada.
Cobalt. You get 2x the points on travel but the Aeroplan visa only gives 1.5x. The points transfer 1:1 to Aeroplan. I did a fair bit of research on this card...I wasn't planning to keep it after they dropped AM. By all accounts this card is the best out there for earning travel rewards because of the variety of options to use them but also the rate at which you can earn.Which Amex do you have?
What about experimenting with making your own chips. Tortillas are not hard to make and from there you cut and bake. That said, I have no idea about ingredients in corn meal.I'm going waaaay off topic here. I need to use the power of the hive mind, crowd sourcing information.
I'm not wanting this thread to veer into politics so please don't go down that road. I'm also not looking for health advice, I'm working under the direction of multiple medical professionals and trust what they are telling me
I need to find a couple of safe-to-me foods that are produced in Canada to replace the ones I currently buy that come from the USA
Corn tortilla chips : can only have 3 ingredients - corn, vegetable oil (preferably sunflower but most are ok) & salt - might have water listed as well, that's ok. I can't find any that don't have hydrated lime or Calcium Hydroxide, neither of which are safe for me
A corn cereal: again, corn and not much else. Honey, sugar, salt are ok.
I'm struggling here, so many of my safe go-to foods are now on our don't buy list but those 2 are a BIG part of my diet because they travel safely for when I'm caught out of the house without access to a kitchen.
I LOVE their products but they are made south of the border - I've shed many tears over the last month trying to find a replacement. I already swallow hard when I bought them because only the Loblaws chain carries them -yes, well .ca as well but much more $$$ and not as convenientWhat about Neal Brothers for corn chips? And you can buy on Well caView attachment 934026View attachment 934027
Ding ding ding - that's right, and I noticed last week that some of their salsa is now made south of the border as well. I'm going to send them an email tomorrow - I know I'm only one person but how else do we let them know?!Close but no cigar!
Are your products made in Canada? A: We exercise every effort to make our products in Canada. Currently all of our jarred items and are made right in Ontario. Our bagged snacks are made in USA.
Maybe that will change.
Yup, yup and yup. Annoyingly, all of the safe for me cereal that Nature's Path makes (those corn flakes are the ones I need a replacement for) are made south of the border)Just a thought

I am tired of making every single thing I eat all of the time, seriously exhausted! I enjoy being able to eat something at least similar to hubby and using bagged tortilla chips, ground beef and cheddar cheese lets us BOTH have nachos ( he has his own chips and get salsa). Yes, the only reason I'm looking for alternatives is to keep our money on this side of the border. What about experimenting with making your own chips. Otherwise, what about a massive stock up purchase on the ones you currently get. Maybe you just want to buy Canadian, in which case I think we are all having those thoughts.
I actually stopped in there once and they can't guarantee safety. What about these guys Jacqueline, they don't list the ingredients but maybe you can contact them. They are made in Toronto

Sadly corn MASA flour is a no-go for me, they process the flour with lime which is a trigger for me (both the fruit and the mineral which makes our drinking water a challenge in a city that has a ton !)
Unfortunately, Cobalt doesn't give 2x on travel anymore... not since October 2024. They still give 2x on gas and transit though! And of course the amazing 5x on groceries.Cobalt.
