Airmiles Armchair Chatter

So I have done my earn 1am at Shell and 1 am at Metro so should earn the bonus 200 miles. I also had an earn 1am at Metro and earn 100am so my little $35 shop at Metro should net me 300 air miles.
Oh wait - I also did a shop at Dollarama on my mastercard so now the Shell, Metro and Dollarama AM should get me the 175 for shopping at 3 different partners. Boy what a haul. I may even do a shop at airmiles shoppes as I have a earn 100 miles when you earn 1am and that would be 4 partners. There is no way that I can find a 5th partner to earn a mile at so I will stop at the 4.
I am just hoping if I order from Michaels and pick up in store that it will count as I refuse to pay their horrendous shipping costs.
Sadly all these bonus deals still won't get me to Onyx as I have only earned 2000 miles so far this year and will not get to 5001 before December 31st.
I also did the Metro one for my sister and she can get her own Shell am and then their card is all done.

I've been meaning to respond to you for what looks like 3 weeks, sorry for the delay! We cancelled the AMEX because the benefits they offer don't fit our needs and the annual fee went up. Was oddly emotional, we've had that card for close to 40 years - got it just after we got married.
I've spent a lot of time studying offers, crunching numbers and actually going into banks to talk to real people (I know, the horror!) I'm still leaning heavily towards the WestJet card but considering one of the Avion cards from RBC as well
I've basically made no decision .....I will likely call them and ask for the better welcome bonus before making any plans.
At the moment I'm focused on the Aeroplan card to get the full bonus. I asked for the limit increase and they said no...so I'm not happy. We will be booking our fall trip, hopefully this weekend, and I can't charge the whole thing to the Aeroplan card because of the limit. I can charge a new car to the Amex card but TD Visa seems to have an issue even though they have literally ALL my money.

Anyone happen to know if I can prepay the amount of the trip to the Aeroplan card to have a credit...in order to charge something over the limit? Did that make sense? @tinkerone you worked in banking right? I'm afraid to ask at my branch as the staff are like 12yo and the customer service manager is Barbie.

We've done this with our business Visa when we have made a really large purchase.

Great haul Juniorbugman !
Since BMO arrived I seem to be getting a few more offers I can do.
Nope I don't think I'll make Onyx this year either.
Gold is ok though. :)

I got shell & Metro done today
200+extra 30 at Metro (Scotties tissues) and spend $20 get 50 Airmiles ,, shell buy 2 pop get 10 Airmiles
= Total 290 Airmiles

I got the 1 AM at Metro today, will have to go to Shell this weekend, but I don't need gas so will be buying something in store for the 1 AM I guess. I imagine spending $5 there will be fairly easy to do. Perhaps I will let kiddo get a slushy. Need the AM. But I have already made Onyx this year, first year in ages I did it before last minute. I do still miss the good old Sobeys, Rexall deals though. Ah the good ole days :)

Question: If I link my AM card to my BMO mastercard, I can supposedly get 100 AM. If my wife has already linked her AM card to that same BMO mastercard, will that mess anything up for her in the future? Can I even do this (i.e. can both AM cards be linked to the same credit card)?

it seems that you can have multiple Mastercard numbers linked to ONE airmiles card and all of the miles earned from either card will post to that one airmiles number.

you can link and unlink your BMO Mastercard as often as you'd like BUT it seems that the miles will only post to the airmiles number that you used to open that credit card while it is linked to that one number.

I finally understood that last paragraph while trying to decide about the WestJet offer we have, it was like a light switch was turned on in my brain. Of course it only works with that airmiles number duh! The choice they are giving is do you want to have other Mastercard credit cards also linked to your airmiles account.

Take time to read the fine print on all of the offers for this weekend - heck for any of them now!
Those of us who have the earn 1 mile at both shell and metro and get 200

SHELL: 1 base mile = 20 L of regular gas or 10 L of the better stuff OR $5 in store
METRO: 1 base mile = $20

even though it says earn 1 mile, it seems they mean 1 BASE MILE

side note- I'm really annoyed that they are tossing out different offers to different people, I know the only thing that is fair in life is 4H (my granny's phrase, cause you know if you're in 4H you have to go to the fall fair and enter your prize pig) but this just irks me! Also makes it really hard to track.

So let's see if I understand this correctly. If I link my AM card to the BMO card that is already linked to my wife's AM card, then any AM's that I earn would go to her - correct?
A further question as I'm not understanding how Dollarama is working with AM's. Is that store based solely on the BMO card and not an AM card as they don't seem to be scanning AM cards at checkout? So, if I have an offer for Dollarama, there's no way for me to collect it as the BMO card is registered to my wife's AM card, even if I have it linked to mine as well - or would I get those AM's as I have mine linked as well?
This is all very confusing!

Me either, where is it located? So many categories!
Hi Hon
Airmiles does a thing called targeted offers ,,so not everyone gets the same offers all the time. The offer that Judy *Juniorbugman * got many of us did not get it. When I didn't have a BMO credit card I never got many offers like others here did.
Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the replies of the Visa thing! I was pretty sure it was ok. I'm going to phone Visa (not the branch) to confirm and to also ask for a limit increase again. Maybe speaking to a human will do something.

I went to Shell yesterday and bought 2 cokes...$5 and 1base plus 21 bonus. Then went to Metro and ordered a pizza and wings for dinner (not great pizza and later regretted my choice)...$22 and 1 base. So my card is done for the 200miles. While waiting for my pizza to be made I wandered and came up with another $20+ worth of stuff so I checked to see if the 200 offer was on DD card...it was, so did that too. Today will have to go back to Shell for probably 2 more beverages....no one needs gas right now.

My observations Re: Dollarama & Mastercard

When I first started using Dollarama I couldn't understand how if they were not scanning my Airmiles card in the store how was I going to get the Airmiles.

Then I realized it is generated via the link I made online between my Mastercard and my Airmiles card.

Right now Airmiles earned at Dollarama must be via a Mastercard link and Airmiles.

I have two Mastercard cards connected to my Airmiles card and depending upon which one I use yes that particular one will generate Airmiles placed into my account.

*Who knows after Nov6th how the Dollarama connection will go..... maybe they will become more of a traditional sponsor with cash being allowed to earn Airmiles and actual showing of Airmiles card will become necessary.

Glad to hear the 2 cokes worked. That's what I was planning on doing on DS card as I don't need more gas. Might pop in to Metro and do DH card also and then do the cokes at Shell.

Correct, the card you used to open that specific BMO MasterCard is the ONLY card that will collect miles from money that you spend at Dollarama, - the current offer that you can see on either the website or that app that states "Earn 5x the BASE miles your BMO card earns" it is an offer that is only available to Mastercard that were issued by BMO, that airmiles account is the ONLY one that can collect these extra miles from Mastercard and they will be posted the airmiles account number that you put on the application form when you opened that specific MASTERCARD. It will also include any miles that your supplementary Mastercards generate - i have my own physical card but it is under hubby's Mastercard account, those transactions generate miles to HIS airmiles account.

Any of the offers for the stores listed on the card link page - they are offers that will post to whichever Airmiles account you attach ANY Mastercard offer to, so if you link a WestJet Mastercard to your own Aimirles account and spend the $30 in Dollarama, 10 miles will post to your airmiles account - it won't generate any other miles to any other account.

Again, you can attach a DIFFERENT Mastercard (let's say a WestJet one) to any airmiles account (even the same one that you used to open your BMO credit card) but it will only be able to generate the tiny linked offers - for Dollarama that is spend $30 get 10 miles

I'm going to take time later today to try and make a post that will help clear this up. Basically, you need to provide an airmiles account number it's entered into the application for the BMO card and that is the one and only airmiles number that will work for the bigger offers you're reading about in this thread.

To answer your question about will you linking her BMO MasterCard to YOUR Airmiles account, you will only cause her to miss out on the spend $30 get 10 miles. I agree it is as clear as mud - hopefully i can make it a bit clearer (even to myself) later today

I found it on the Airmiles app under bonus offers but as everyone has said it may have been a targeted offer. Weird though that I found it on all 3 of the cards that I can check.
There were also a bunch of redeem your dream miles on items and either earn bonus miles or for a lower redemption value.
And I guess we were lucky as I don't have a BMO card either.
