Airmiles Armchair Chatter

Jacqueline I think you have the values swapped up above. I think the elite should be the spend $12 and the spebd $25 should be the basic.
Good catch! Fixed it. I was looking at 2 different pages at the same time and kept mixing those up!

BMO, MasterCard and all things connected to earning Airmiles

BMO acquired the Airmiles program in 2023 and we're currently living in the honeymoon phase of this new arrangement while BMO tries to maximize their customer base. They are using the linked offers (info below) as a way to attract both customers and merchants to join the program and/or open up a credit card. They are offering big bonuses that you need to OPT-in to activate, they change regularly and are targeted, meaning you must check your account and/or Airmiles App frequently. You need to watch carefully and be sure that the offer says "Ready to use" and appears under your Saved Offers on your Airmiles Account.

Two different cards that you can open:
BMO MasterCard - for the rest of this post (and throughout the thread for me) I'll refer to it as the BASIC Card
BMO World Elite Card - I'll refer to this as the ELITE Card
General Info:

BenefitBASICELITE
Annual FeeNone120 (1st year waived currently)
Additional Card$ (no idea!)$50
Miles at Partner stores3 miles/$253 miles/$12
Miles at Stand alone grocery stores2 miles/$252 miles/$12
Miles everywhere else1 mile/$251 mile/$12
Airmiles Status automaticallyGoldOnyx

When you apply for either of the BMO Credit cards you will need to add an Airmiles number to the application form and once you are approved any transaction made using the main credit card and any additional cards will generate miles as shown above. The miles will post ONLY to that account, BMO assigns a code to each merchant and will only see the total charged to your card.

****This has
NOTHING to do with any offers that come directly from Airmiles, partner stores, linked offers or online shopping. These miles are ONLY connected to how much you spend and where you shopped. There is ZERO chance for these miles to post connected to any Airmiles account other than the one used to open the credit card****

You are able to link ANY MasterCard that is issued within Canada to an Airmiles account.
This will allow you to earn small bonuses that are outlined here: CARD LINKED OFFERS
You can add a WestJet Mastercard if you want, that will
ONLY let you earn the small miles mentioned on the above webpage, nothing else, no base miles, just those small detailed offers.
If you try to link the BMO Basic or Elite card to a
DIFFERENT Airmiles account than was used to open the credit card, all you will do is stop the small linked offers from posting to that "Main" account. The "Linked Offers" are ONLY for the small tiny bonuses and there is no benefit to unlinking your BMO credit card, it is already connected to your Airmiles account , why not get those smaller bonuses as well? Remember the comment above, you can't stop miles posting to the account used to open your BMO credit card, that will happen automatically.

CURRENT big offer until November 6th
Confusion is being created by the fact that Dollarama is also a linked offer.

Dollarama - ANY transaction using your BMO Basic or Elite card will automatically trigger 5x the normal earn rate in the above chart.
Basic card will earn 5 miles/$25 spent
Elite card will earn 5 miles/$12 spent
NO need to show your Airmiles card, this happens automatically, BMO has assigned a merchant code to Dollarama and they will know you have spent money - all they care about is the bottom line on the receipt - tax included. They don't care what you buy at Dollarama, just that you used your BMO issued Mastercard which already has your Airmiles account number attached to it.

If by some mistake or confusion you've attempted to link your BMO Mastercard to a different Airmiles account these miles will STILL post to the account that you used to open the credit card.
So just to throw a monkey wrench in to all this.....
I have a MC that is neither of the ones listed above. My card gives 1 mile/$15 across the board but I also get 1.5 miles/$15 at Shell.

No problem! I'll just add it to the chart - all of the above info should be the same for your card. Do you know what it's called? Do you pay an annual fee? When I was looking at the fine print to find out how much the additional fees are for an extra card on the Basic I thought I saw info about 3 but there's only 2 listed that you can apply for - very confusing indeed!

No idea what it currently is called. It used to be a platinum card but they changed it. I'm not even sure what the fee is...I think $120.

Really helpful aren't I?

I've read thru terms, fees, so many small fine print that my eyes are blurry! I can't find any information about this card, I'll still add it to the chart though in case someone else has it as well. Just another wrinkle in the mess

Ok so this is odd and goes *possibly* against my big post regarding MasterCard - I just had the use a card-link offer and get 100 miles post on the SECONDARY account. The miles for the actual offer at Dollarama never posted to that account though so I'm more confused, but I'll take the extra 100 miles.

Had a dump from our Metro store as well (dating back to the last week of July, extremely hard to keep track!) and that brings my combined total to just over 19,300. My projected *cost* for the annual pass is around 21,000 and I have 1300 miles owing on the main account bringing me to within about 500 miles to collect. I WILL do this before our Birthday Trip! Bring on some kind of bonus -- ooh I should go buy more gift cards at Dollarama!

So the unlinking/linking the AM to MC worked! I had done a clinique order on AM shops and double dipped. It was a AM Shops 100 bonus miles offer, plus the first time you link your AM to MC get 100 miles. Well I got those 100 miles on DH's account.

The next day, I unlinked his AM to the cardlink.ca site and relinked mine to my MC. That is when I did the $30 Dollarama + 10 miles + 100 miles offer. Hopefully that posts as well.

Is anyone else experiencing the card linked offers just not working? I tried linking my Triangle mastercard. It says it's already linked. So I make the purchases. No points.

So I go to unlink the card and an error shows up - that there is no information that matches this in the database.

So I go to link the card again and it says it's already linked.

I don't understand. Any tips you can share?

Already linked to another account possibly?

I wish I had the get 50 miles one, but I'll be good with the 7x. Just wish Amazon had their own that I could stack AND that travel was included. We need to book a night in Collingwood for one night at the end of the month. We do live within a short drive but it's for a memorial service for one of the team my hubby worked with for a MASSIVE Y2K project (yes, it really was a thing, and it had him gone from Monday-Friday to Chicago & across Canada for about 18 months) on a Sunday afternoon and the gang wants to get together on the Saturday night.

I'm trying to find time to rework my MasterCard post after it appears that one part of the linking and unlinking works (not completely for me?) but life has gotten in the way :P
