Airmiles Armchair Chatter

Well, I made the error of making a post over on cruise critic. Big mistake lol I was instantly replied to with insulting sarcasm. Glad to see that site hasn't changed much. lol
Sorry that happened to you. I hope it wasn't on the Canadian Board. For the most part, everyone there is kind and helpful. On the Holland America Board there are a couple that get the rolled eyes for their responses. (those are the two boards that I frequent)

Aeroplan, not airmiles, has anyone heard of "flight packs" before? You purchase flights at the rate you want for the zone you want and have a year to use them. Have to use it 14 days before the flight. Seems pricey to me. Perhaps someone else can find the benefit?

We are officially moved back into our bedrooms ,,complete with new paint and carpets and a super cleaning ..... oops one door has to be shaved down to get it to close. Youngest son's best friend is a carpenter and going to do this next Sunday for me.:)
Personally after using Alexanian Carpet 6 times and Carpet one this time...I'd go with Alexanian Carpet 100% next time .

The benefit is for people who make regular trips and don't want to be bothered with anything other than just picking a flight that suits them. They started eons ago as commuter passes between cities like Toronto & Ottawa or Montreal and business travellers didn't care so much about cost. There is rarely any benefit or savings to the average traveller IMHO. I just priced it out and it comes in around the $500-ish mark for one way between YYZ and MCO, not a price I would willingly drop. It could be an advantage to someone who has difficulty with cash flow perhaps? Buy the pack when you have the money and then use them whenever you want. It also allows you to pick any flight time & on certain days there can be a MASSIVE difference the butt-crack-of-dawn flight and the one midday.

Not happening for this household - was tasked with researching it myself today :P

I wondered about blackout periods. The cost looks like what I'd be paying for March Break, but if I can't get the good flights then it's not worth it. I haven't really looked too closely though. Also locks me into Air Canada and with more options now it might not be the best idea. Thanks for the feedback though, I had never heard of it before.

I got 150 and was supposed to be 200. Haven't gotten the airmilesshops bonuses yet or the Metro bonuses either.
I thought I could do 2 airmiles.ca shops online for two shops but as Jacqueline explained in a previous post I could only do 1 to count.
My Amazon online order never produced a miles in my account either.

I had one Metro which posted and 1 Staples online ,,also posted which only got me 95 airmiles.

I think I'll skip amazon from now on ,,,just too risky and I never get Airmiles posted without calling or chatting with Airmiles.

On the subject of Amex…what have those of us that have one decided to do come September? I know that my membership is due in either January or March so I have a bit of time to figure out what to do. I’ve got a few things swirling through the brain. Keep the Cobalt card until the membership fee is due transferring the miles (or whatever they call them) over to Aeroplan and then cancel the card….or keep it, IDK. Also thinking about upgrading the BMO and making that my main card. Then there is the Aeroplan card I just got which I had planned to cancel after making the bonus points but I could keep that except they gave me a crazy low limit which I would have to address. I can easily make the annual fee back just in free checked bags on that one.
I've been meaning to respond to you for what looks like 3 weeks, sorry for the delay! We cancelled the AMEX because the benefits they offer don't fit our needs and the annual fee went up. Was oddly emotional, we've had that card for close to 40 years - got it just after we got married.
I've spent a lot of time studying offers, crunching numbers and actually going into banks to talk to real people (I know, the horror!) I'm still leaning heavily towards the WestJet card but considering one of the Avion cards from RBC as well

I did Metro, Shell and Amazon (all which posted the base miles). Not sure why I only got credited with two. I so hate having to chase down miles.

This is the 2nd time i was only credited for using 2 instead of 3 urgh!
Last time I did cash miles at Shell and Etsy online and then Metro as normal, but my store is ALWAYS slow to post so I figured that was the glitch.
This past weekend I used cash miles at Metro thinking that gives a "paper trail" , got gas at Shell (way over the threshold spend to trigger 1 base mile at my earning rate) and online Staples order
ALL 3 of those posted properly to my account yet still, only got the 95 bonus miles.

The fine print connected to when we can chase down these miles is very frustrating - why do I need to wait another 2 or 3 months when I KNOW right now that they fudged up on their end? Will they correct it automatically? Nope, we need to contact them and jump thru far too many hoops.

Well I have placed 2 orders at Walmart this summer and still haven't received any miles so I think Walmart is becoming a big problem. One was end of July and the other one was August 26th so I will be fighting for both of those as the 2nd one was the big 30x promo.
Ughhhh why why why

Just checking my account tonight and
I would like to switch back to Dream Miles soon but everything is taking awhile to post.
I was hoping to pick up a $50 Dining Card towards a Christmas no cook Holiday meal for 100 Airmiles cheaper.
The promo ends Sept 30th.
Come on Airmiles pick up the posting pace here.

Hugs Mel

I can't decide... Do I book something for March break but do Monday to Monday so kiddo is missing a day of school, or do I wait and book something for summer and hope one of the airlines has direct flights for late August (hurricane risk and super hot) with no missed school? He's in grade 9 now, but it'd be one day.

Thinking Universal for the first time, and kiddo also wants to do SeaWorld (and Busch Gardens but I said that's too far and difficult to get to/from). Can't do a Deluxe at Universal, way too expensive, but Cabana Bay or Aventura are decent prices.

I'm going in December (Disney and cruise), and was also hoping to book a bounce back at Disney but doing both just is so expensive because of the tickets. Hotels are a wash really, but man the tickets get pricey when you only want to do a few days at each one. I won't have enough AM to get a ticket to either I don't think. Darn Porter and their seat sale. WestJet too.

I was also thinking of a Bermuda cruise in summer 2024 or 2025 (they aren't out yet so was waiting on that to happen).

@hdrolfe When we stayed at Cabana Bay, we were able to arrange for a paid shuttle to SeaWorld. You pay at Cabana Bay, they give you a ticket. You take the resort bus to the bus drop off at Universal. You pick up the "Super Shuttle" or something like that. We chose to come back on the last shuttle of the day at like 5:30(?). It was so easy. It was only a 20 minute drive, if my memory serves me.

Also, maybe look at the Surfside/Dockside resorts as they are cheaper than Cabana Bay.

I did look at the Surfside/Dockside but when I showed kiddo he wanted the two bed room suite, so the cost goes up lol. Even though it might be nice to have so much space, I don't think we need it :) He liked the look of Aventura because of the big windows. I liked the look of Cabana Bay because of the pool area. But if we are able to go to Volcano bay it might not matter I guess.

And thanks for the info on the shuttle! Didn't know about that

Oh, if you are going to VB then yea, definitely stay Cabana Bay. No brainer.

For the SeaWorld shuttle, we had to book the tickets the day prior and the tickets are actually free, no charge.

I vote for Cabana Bay

Very easy walk to Volcano Bay from Cabana Bay. Lots of places to shop in the neighborhood.
My room was like 100 feet away.

New Malts & Shakes ice cream bar....

Walk across the street to Sapphire Falls and take the water Taxi into the parks.
Check out sapphire Lounges .

Good info here

If doing Dockside or Surfside
I stayed last year in a 2 bedroom suite and loved it.

check out the Trolley transportation (Tinkerone shared it with me last year)
