Airmiles Armchair Chatter

I managed to stay out of the basement during the downpour today (dog fearful of storms). Saw the hail grow in size. It littered the garden like snow for a few minutes before it melted.

I had no idea about the flooding until my son mentioned it to me a few minutes ago. The grocery store I was at this morning flooded around noon. I guess I should have known it was happening as my front garden was a small pool of water.

We have storm water settling ponds out behind us. I must go over there and watch the rushing water tonight. When there's a heavy rain one of the dams turns into a loverly waterfall.

I hope everyone is still dry given the afternoons events.

What the heck is happening?! Hurricanes on the regular, flooding on the regular, tornedos, on top of the usual winter storms...I draw the line at earthquakes.

Don't move to Ottawa! We get those but fairly mild ones. I believe there was a very small one the other day. I used to think this area was great, I mean yes we have crazy winter storms and freezing rain, but summer was hot but fine. This year has been nuts, and it seems to be getting worse year by year. I have been watching the Maritimes as well, from the fires earlier, then the flooding.

So what is up with Redtag/AM ? I want to book my fall vacay (great deals through WJ right now) with some upgrades that I was going to use AM to pay for. I've been able to pay for a portion of it in the past with miles. I only want to pay maybe $1000 or so with miles but that does not seem to be an option. Also, the price is actually a lot higher than it is on any site including WJ.

Something strange is going on at the moment with the site. I just looked at flights I've been watching for next April. I could get 3 of us there for a price I've never seen before ($875 total for 3). I'm almost tempted to book. Delta had the low price, same flight on WJ was a lot more. Delta has the same flight on their website for $491. No consistency.

I'll be doing this on Monday, we haven't had an offer from shell on the main card since last November so hopefully i can force them to start up again 🤷‍♀️

Delta sells seats on WJ flights and often for less. The price on the Delta site is likely in USD.

Right now WJ is having a sale so that is why you see great prices. Delta will be selling at the same price on those flights.

The package I’m looking it is $800 less AND I can get premium class. I’ve been tracking the places I’m interested in and this WJ sale popped up along with a sale on this specific resort chain. So it’s a double deal.

I'm happy to see deals on flights once again. I'm not ready to commit to flights at this point for a $300 saving. I'll keep my options open a while longer.

Did anyone get airmiles on the last one day Shell offer, July 10? I did it on two accounts but less than than 30L on each and haven't seen any airmiles. It didn't say minimum spend so I thought I was good to go with less than 30L.

Yes, I got them at the time of purchase as usual. I killed it that day. Can't remember the exact number but I had the 100 miles offer, plus 3 fill ups for the month plus some other ones and ended the day with close to 300 miles.

Thank you! I didn't get any at the pump but have the receipts. I was using it for one of three shops, get 175am in July so didn't get that either. Funny thing is it triggered a 100am if you shop at Shell in July offer but nothing else so Shell and Airmiles knew I was there.

So I'm out around $40 in airmiles over it, I'll see if I find time to chase it, really dislike the time it takes.

I didn't even know WJ sold vacation packages. My nieces husband is a pilot for WJ, flies the Dominican route, so you think I should have known. I'll have to take a look and see what they have as I want something for late fall. Thanks for the heads up.

Today is the 20th anniversary of the big Eastern Seaboard blackout of 2003 (which I wasn't aware of until after I started) but I picked today to defrost my upright freezer. How appropriate.
Moral of the story is always keep a battery powered radio somewhere, lots of extra batteries and food that doesn't require heating. Oh and keep those phones charged up. I still have an old fashioned land line so I am good.

Funny thing is, the cottage in Haliburton had the power dim for about 30 seconds then came back on. There had been a planned power outage that had already been cancelled but the family thought it was back on. Somehow their power grid switched over to Manitoba so they never lost power. They then proceeded to watch all the events on TV while I was at home with no power. They did bring home fresh food for me and one of our friends.

I remember the great power outage,, I saw all sorts of foods and drinks cooked on BBQs.
I've got my battery powered radio and flashlight all charged and in the First aid kit.
I also have one of those old crank flashlights.

Charging my phone right now.
We reviewed where to go if we get a Tornado warning.

My Brownie /Girl Guides ,,Pioneer Girl training is flooding back to me.
lol

Be well & safe everyone.
Hugs Mel
