Airlines inspecting luggage

I have found that my favorite way to travel is by commuter jet.

I can check in online with delta.com.

That way I bypass the counter and the luggage thing. I plop my bag on the conveyer at security and then I check it planeside and pick it up at the plane when we get to our destination!

It really is very convenient.

yes Jeanny, we were lucky, film was fine . last year was the 1st time we had flown in 30 yrs we have always driven everywhere, so i really didn't know how everything worked at the airports. my carry-on will be a little heavier this upcoming trip

We just returned from MCO to Islip on Southwest yesterday. Took us 1 hour to get our bags checked in by the Skycap. My luggage was not searched but my brother who flew with us found the note that his was opened. Nothing missing, no mess. He had books and a tripod in his bag that may have triggered the search.

We flew out of PVD on 3/17 (Delta) and the X-ray machines where right by the ticket counter. Had to check-in, and then bring checked luggage to the x-ray and wait. We were also told not to have our luggage locked. They didn't open our bag, but we noticed that when they did check someone's bag, the people stayed right there and could not touch the luggage, but could watch the TSA employee look through. By the time we came home on Sat. 3/22, we were at war, and expected our luggage to be gone thru, but we were told to just carry our luggage over to the machine, and go out to the gate. They didn't appear to have searched our luggage.

I was prepared, by reading these boards. I had packed a lot of our stuff in plastic bags (some of the travel size space saver bags as well as the 2-gal size plastic bags. I figured if they were going to go through my clothes, that being able to see it through the plastic would make it easier, quicker, and there would be less risk of "things" hanging out the side of the suitcase.

I guess it depends on the airport and sheer chance.

We left from ISP to MCO and we did curbside and still they escorted us inside to have bags inspected and we were made to stand there until they were done. No big deal just took up some time. The day we returned from MCO back to ISP was the day we declared war. We were advised bags would be checked and to make sure we were there at least 2 hours prior to flight. We checked in curbside and were told they check the bags without us having to stand there. It all went very smooth and we had 2 hours to sit before the flight.

A friend just came back fromAC airport Sat. She said that ALL lugguge was being hand searched. This is not a busy time so I don't know if this will happen at busier times. You check in, then take your luggage with you to the inspection area, then proceed to the security checkpoint where carry-ons are checked.

Since we are at war this is NOT a surprise. I expect that they will be checking all luggage regardless of the fact that it is busy or not. We are in a "red alert" and they are not going to leave any "stone" unturned.

I just flew back from Seattle to NC on Sunday and they were looking through all bags. I had a bunch of dirty clothes wadded up in mine!They were also randomly inspecting cars going into the airport at Raleigh, but neither added any extra time.
