airlines - anyone else concerned about upcoming flights?

Dianedisney- try to get seat assignment now, don't wait until day of
flight if at all possible. We found out when they change flight numbers
sometimes your seat assignment goes away also! And make sure you
have return seat also! Regards, Gary

Hey all....you are making me a little nervous with all of you guys flying in the day before....due to schedules at work I cannot ever leave on Friday....flying from LaGuardia on the 8:15 a.m. flight....and going to listen carefully to the weather report a day or two before since they have a 6:10 a.m. flight in the morning that we could fly stand by on.....but if all is clear with weather we will probably just hang for the 8:15.....had a nightmare flight last year...actually were on the 6:10 flight...was at the airport at 4 since it was just after 9/11 and you had to be very early for check in....on the flight at 6......and when plane was pulling back it hit the jetway and damaged the plane....made us all get off and they brought over another plane from the other side of airport...put us back on the plane and we were ready to go at 8 a.m...but problem with the back-up battery and we had to sit on the plane for 2 more hours...finally got in the air at 10:15.....arrived in MCO about twenty to one....made it to the ship for the buffet....but talk about nerves...and there were 3 other families on the jet going on the cruise...DCL said they would have held the ship for us...but...you never know....so now I am nervous....crossing my fingers....11 days to the "MAGIC"!

If it makes you feel any better, there was someone that got on the ship at 4:15! Talk about cutting it close!

Due to flights (NW Airlines) being delayed and late take offs I missed my ship in Miami to go on a 4 day cruise w/Carnival. My only recourse was to get a room at the airport hotel and book a flight to the next port which was Nassau. That morning I boarded an AA flight (since NW held no responsibility) that I had to pay for. The night before I notified the cruise company of my situation. I landed in Nassau at 8:30am in the morning and took a taxi to the port and boarded my ship at 9:00am. I was actually pleasantly surprised Carnival was waiting for me to take my bags to my cabin. I ended up having a decent time with my friends who were already on board but I could have done without the added stress and cost of the air ticket. So the moral to this story is........
Arrive early and relax.

I've been cruising for about 7 years now and always arrive the day before. It's a combination of the weather and needing time to relax. We normally escape to the South in the Winter so we are in 'just in case mode'. If we leave the day before we won't miss our flight or the ship. On our first Cruise we actually had to wait over an hour for a plane that had a large number of cruisers that were delayed due to a snow storm
We booked this flight using frequent flier miles with US Air - (use them while we could) We were bummed that we had to fly out of a different airport, further from home but luckly they called yesterday and informed me that our original flight is cancelled and they would need to re-book us. I love Gail in their ticket office cause they re-booked us at the local airport. Now as long as nothing happens to cause them to reschedule ***pixie dust*** we're set. I'm even hoping that we can try to fly stand-by on an earlier flight...nothing puts me in the Disney Spirit more than dinner in Downtown Disney before the cruise.

Oh, just a little tip I picked up after 9/11 from the boards. We made cards for the flight crew thanking them for safely transporting us to our Disney Family Vacation. The crew loved them and DD was very proud of her artwork - she was 5 at the time.
