SouthWest and Delta song
Hey all
Need some advice/feelings/etc

I have reservations booked at WDW for JAn and am going to buy airfare this week.

The two airlines that I wanted to fly was either southwest or delta song.

Here is what I am not sure of.

Southwest flys out of a local airport 40 mins. from my house, very convienent, no hassle to get there and cheap parking, but without assignned seating makes me concerned about getting three seats togtherfor myself dw and dd she is only 6 and this is her first flight, she told me that she wants mommy and daddy next to her.
Not afraid of flight down I can get there early enough to get first boarding group I believe but can't really do that in Orlando.

Delta song , have to drive into Boston/logan only about 30 minutes longer but more hassle. But the big thing is the Dalta is threatening bankrupsy themselves. If we lose those tickets a month out will not be able to get affordable tickets.

What would you do. Thanks in Advance Dave

Also

Would checking in at Orlando 1 1/2 hours early be enough to get us on the first baording A I think is what they call it.?

Thanks Dave

Dave,

I have the same dilemma myself. I am in NH too. We are flying out in February. I found an "OK" deal with Delta out of Manchester but I am waiting for SWA schedule to open up through Feb. I have taken SWA before with a party of 11. We had no problems getting seats on the way down together. Got those "A" boarding passes and were able to pre-board. My friend had a DD5 so I believe that is why we got the A boarding pass. Not sure what the cut-off age for getting them is but if you get there 1-1/2 hours early I think you will be OK to sit together. On the way home from Orlando though we did not get a "A" boarding pass even though we were there way early. We were split up all over the plane but I did get to sit with my DD6. I really dread flying out of Logan and have ruled that out as of now. I am going to try to take my chances with SWA out of Manchester for me and the 3 kids and try to arrive early for seats together coming and going and hope for the best. I think you should ask when you get there if you can get the "A" boarding pass and just arrive early to get a better shot at sitting together and try the same thing on the way home. SWA does have non-stop flights to Orlando so that would probably be worth it alone. Good luck. Maybe you could post back and let me know what you decided on.

I can't answer for Southwest mainly because I have never flown them for the same reason you mention. I like the idea of sitting together and I do not like the idea of having to cue up a long time in advance to secure seats.

I have flown Song from Boston and the experience was great. It also happened to be the first flight for my children (or should I say the first one they remembered!) and they loved it!

Check in at Logan and Orlando was a breeze. Logan has been totally revamped and is much better than it was in the past. The flip side however is the cost to park and that is something you should consider.

I would not be concerned about Song/Delta being out of business. They have not filed for bancruptcy (yet) and if they do, the plan would be to work through the bancruptcy and emerge as a stronger carrier. Delta/Song's bread and butter is the Northeast to Florida route so I hardly doubt they would drop that route.

It is possible however that the flight times may change from when you book but you run into that potential with every airline.

Best of luck and enjoy the trip.

Goofydad621; remember also that Song is not the only low-cost/ high service airline flying out of New England. I suggest you also take a gander at JetBlue, who have equally low fares (compared to Song), assigned seating (in leather seats!), individual entertainment stations on each seat back. Tho I don't think a Delta bankruptcy would have any adverse impact on your flights, it might also relieve you to know that JetBlue is one of the USA's Most Solvent Airlines.

Sadly for you, they fly out of Logan rather than Manch-Vegas, so it's a bit longer of a drive for you (tho only 14 miles for me ;) ).

As for SouthWest, I don't know how to guarantee yourself seating together without your computer and printer there. Perhaps some SouthWest experts here could help with that. I understand your stress over the possibility of not being seated together; perhaps SouthWest could gain even more market share by figuring a way to assuage the fears of folks like yourself.

Thanks to both of you, I am a worrier by nature.

Kim to get pre-baording your child has to be under 5 now so my dd is 6 going on 7 so it won't work for us. Also the SW lets you get your baording pass via internet after 12:01 on day of flight but I won't have a way of doing that in Orlando but others will.
check out what I wrote below maybe that would work for you too.

Cap

Driving to logan is a bit of a hassle compared to me driving to Manchester but I have done it many times. They have a new Hampton inn over at Logan and we can stay the night get there free shuttle and park there for about 40 dollors more then using the park shuttle and fly so think we would do that. No worries about weather or anything more of flight at least for getting to the air port. My main concern was loding our tickets and not being able to get affordable replacments.

Thanks for you insite and thoughts

Dave
