airline question for aour trip WDW

Hi we have booked internal airfares from LA to orlando and return. We booked with Continental Airlines but have noticed the fine print says "Flights operated by United airlines" which is kind of strange where we come from(Australia) I thought if you booked Continental you would fly with them.

Anyway do we check in at the Continental Counter or the United counter at LAX and again at Disney ME for the return flight. Strange why would Continental take the money and then pay United. Am I missing something here

It's called code sharing and Continental does it alot. Between Newark, NJ and London you might either be on a Continental flight or a Virgin Airways flight. Continental uses this program for routes and/or times that they can't or don't want to fly.

Continental does not actually fly non-stop from LAX to MCO, if you used actual Continental airplanes to do this you would have to connect through IAH (Houston) or EWR (Newark [way out of the way]). By pairing with United Continental can offer it's fares and, for those so inclined, it's mileage programs to it's customers without having to apply for the right to fly the route.

Check in with Continental, that's who issued your ticket. If you need to change, etc. call Continental the only thing United is doing is supplying the airplane.

Have fun, I'm jealous, the soonest I'll be able to get back to WDW is 2011, probably not until 2012.

As and airline employee I will tell you that for a code-share flight you check-in and check your bags with the carrier that is operating the flight, not the carrier that issued the ticket.

I would suggest that you contact either Continental or United and ask who you check-in with. Tell them you bought a ticket thru Continental for a codeshare flight operated by United and you need to know who to check-in with at LAX.

Sorry for the wrong information on check-in, I coudl have sworn that I checked in with Continental in EWR for a Virgin flight that I booked through Continental and it had a continental flight number, but that was about 7 years ago, so I guess it either changed, or I remember incorrectly.

Best suggestion call Continental and ask them where you should check in.

Airlines form "alliances" to offer more flights on their schedule. If they don't fly a certain route or want to offer more choices, they can put a flight by one of their partners on the schedule so that you can get to where you need to go. In most cases, you can credit the flights to any of the frequent flyer partners in the alliance. For example, I flew United from Pittsburgh to Washington DC to Frankfurt and then Lufthansa to India last year. The United flights were codeshared to Lufthansa so they were the carrier that issued the ticket. They are both in the Star Alliance, along with USAirways and others. I credited the miles for the entire trip to USAirways even though I did not fly with them.

Check in with United. It happens to me a lot, too since United and USAirways also codeshare.
