Why would an airline charge a fee plus the difference? I am willing to pay the difference and even a $50 fee once but not for all 8 tickets.
It's no wonder why the airline industry is slumping...They'd be making more money if they allowed me to switch without the fee....I just don'tundersand...I thought makingmoney was a good thing.

The airlines sell (more expensive) tickets that are fully refundable and changeable. They also sell discounted tickets which have restrictions. If you're not willing to pay the change fee you have the choice of either using your original dates or wasting the tickets. The fee was an alternative to telling people they had no option when they wanted to change their dates.
