I'm starting to look into airlines for our upcoming trip. The last few times we've gone we've driven or rented a car, so we didn't check our bags at the resort and print boarding passes for our return flight. Can we do that if we fly Southwest or Jet Blue?

Q. What is Resort Airline Check-In Service?
A. Resort Airline Check-In Service is a benefit offered to Guests of select Disney Resort hotels who are departing from Orlando International Airport on participating airlines.

You can check your luggage and receive your airline boarding pass right at your Disney Resort hotel. Resort Airline Check-In Service is available if you are flying on:
  • Alaska Airlines
  • American Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • JetBlue Airways
  • Southwest Airlines
  • United Airlines
To pay airline baggage fees, please call (407) 284-1231 to pay the fees before visiting the Resort Airline Check-In desk. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call.

You can pay baggage fees with MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover Card.

We're flying down this weekend on Jet Blue - and I bought the tix a long time ago so were grandfathered in on the free checked luggage - do you know if they will KNOW that at the resort for our return trip?

Even if you rent a car, you can use the resort check-in. There's no requirement to ride the bus like there is on arrival.

They access the same system as the curbside check or kiosks at the airport. So it should come up.

Just flew JB on 12/26, also grandfathered on like luggage fee and no problem at all.

Thanks - I just wondered if Disney was going to be asking for proof that we pre-paid for our luggage or something. Ever since we got our Owners Locker we haven't checked bags when we fly so I'm fuzzy on the DME process but I'm planning on checking 1 to share between the 3 of us this time.

I use to just pay for my checked bags at the airline check in desk, do we now have to call and pay ahead? Or can we still just pay when we drop off the bags? Thanks.

I've used this service many times. Just be aware that they want you to drop off the bags at least 3 hours before your flight. That means for me, I have to drop them off as soon as the booth at the resort opens, at 6 am.

Can't you just call Bell Services to come & get your bags & have them get them rather than take them yourself? They hold the carry-ons & send the checked ones ahead on a truck, right? I know the DME bus usually leaves about 3 hours b4 your flight so you have to be back to retrieve anything stored well before that time. But I guess I am confused about the checked bags. Do they go on the bus with you too?

I don't know. I know that when I bring my bags, they ask for ID just like at the airport. So I don't know how that would work with bell services.

Your bags do not go on the bus with you - they go in "cages" that are transported to the airport. We usually roll down our bags to check, handle checking them and getting boarding passes and then go back to the room. We have separately gone to the bell desk to have them hold our carry on items for us while we explored a park until DME time when taking a later flight.

The reason for the at least 3 hours is so there is enough time to get them to the airport. The owner of the bags has to be there to check them when you do the airline check in. Bell services wouldn't be able to do this. We have used the service many times, including when we knew we were on an earlier flight...but, I will say, having to go early was better than having to go to the airport with them, and stand in line to check them there.

The airport baggage check in desk is open from 5 am to 11 am, or it use to be. So check to make sure you don't miss them.

You can take your bags on the DME bus if desired
RAC is open 5AM to 1PM daily
You need to check in bags 3 hours prior to your flight
Travelers must be present with Government ID to check in bags
Bells Services can help you take your luggage to RAC but they can not check them in
RAC can print boarding passes and security documents

Can you still pay the airline bag fee in person or do you have to call the number posted above and pre-pay?

I had a bad experience with United airlines resort check years back. I had a very early morning flight and needed to catch ME early. Went thru all the proper pro cedures. Paid in advance for my bags, etc. Got them down to the lobby with bell help. Then their was some sort of glitch and they could not check them. Can't remember what United rep told me. Got a refund on my bag money. Had to haul my bags to ME. ME would not help me with my bag. I have a bad back, so needless to say this was a nightmare for me. I think I even offered they ME guy a $50 bill. Did not want to deal with my bag. I have since learned to NOT pack so much. And forturnately have never had any issues again. We usually do United or SW. I used to go to the concierge and have them print up my boarding pass late the night before, then realized that is all part of the service and ready for you when you hand over your bag. I wrote to Disney about my bad experience and they gave me 4 park hopper tickets that were valid for what seemed like forever. i know that is tacky of me, but it really was my worst experience at Disney ever and thankfully nothing like that has happened since. Oh, I also make a point not to book such an early flight. Live and learn.

I think that getting a Bell Services person would have been a better choice there. The RAC people don't really leave their stations. Glad you don't pack as heavily anymore. That or two smaller bags sounds better for you.

Happens sometimes. Not necessarily a RAC thing, but an airline thing.

Didn't you still have to pay United, though?

That was nice of them.

Only 1 person has to check in the bags for your party. Which is nice so the rest of your party can head on to the parks.
