airline check in at port

I have read conflicting information regarding airline check in at the port. Maybe someone who has cruised recently can straighten this out. Is there still airline check in at the port? Can you check your luggage at the port if you are NOT using disney transfers?

On our 5-1 Eastern we were told not unless we bought Disney Transfers back to the airport. We already had a limo so we just dealt with it. We had a day room at the Hyatt so we just had them hold all the luggage in bell service until we were ready to head out to our flight.
