airline cancelled flight 2 weeks from now, but all's well that ends well

well i had a heart attack yesterday morning...
got a call from our TA that DS's flight 2 weeks from now had been cancelled....
that is, the airline decided to discontinue that flight, leaving only a later flight..
but the later flight missed his connection...

in any case, after discussions between the TA and the airline, DS ended up with a much better flight, on a much better plane, eliminating one of the connections.....
initially he had 3 flights to get to chile (the cheapest flight i could find for him - flying to paris, then to new york, then down to chile), now he only has two flights to get there (straight to new york and then down to chile)....had i initially booked it that way, it would have cost a lot more than the 3-leg route, but now it's at no additional cost (since it was the airline's fault not ours)...

so woo hoo!!! alls well that ends well.....but it was a momentary "oh damn, what do we do now" sort of moment!!

yes, it was 2 hours of nail biting as i waited for the TA to call me back with the conclusion of his negotiations with the airline...they wanted to change the entire route...

so now they get to actually sleep through the night before the flight (they would have had to leave for the airport at 2:30 am for the flight that was cancelled, but now they get to leave for the airport at 7 am for their new direct flight).....

and they get a plane that has in-seat entertainment (the other planes had only an overhead screen)...

hopefully, there will be no other last minute changes (like to their return route - when they meet up with us in orlando)....i can't take the tension!!

Bet that was a shock!! but glad its all sorted out now and he has a better flight!
