We have been to WDW numerous times during the summers; this year we are also going to go for the Xmas holidays as well (12-25 thru 12-30). For those of you that have traveled by air during that period of the year, do airfares get as competitive as the fares we are seeing now (hence under $200)? As of now, we are planning on driving; we got airfare for $156 pp for our upcoming trip in September and some of the people in our party got the airfare last week for $130 pp (NWA)

We flew Jet Blue on 12/23 2 years ago and paid top dollar. Closer to the trip the fares dropped a little (maybe $20) and we got credit. This year we are flying Jet Blue again and the tickets are $500 rt. We booked a while ago and they have not budged at all!

We fly all the time during the holidays, no price breaks. My guess is that most, if not all of the cheaper fares are gone. If you spot a good fare under 300 R/T grab it fast. We usually buy are tickets 11 months out.

We flew this past holiday season to WDW (I think 12/28-1/3). Fares were not cheap! As it was, we drove to Kentucky to visit in-laws, then flew out of Louisville Intl (which had the cheapest rate for our times/flight preferences).

If you are a bit flexible with your flight preferences (one stop vs. non-stop), and I know you live close to DTW, consider either FNT or TOL. I've found good rates out of those airports in the past couple of years. It's also a lot easier to work your way through those smaller airports (with security and baggage claim). Just a thought.

I have seen airfares over $500 since they first became bookable for those dates. A few years ago, we paid $300 r/t, but this year I did luck out with $220 r/t, and the price returned to $500 right after booking. I guess I was lucky... ;)

I'm in Chicago and just booked AA $170 RT/non stop per person 12/18-12/25. Granted, we are flying on Christmas day, so that helped the rate quite a bit...but need to be home by 5 p.m. for family dinner...or else!
Good luck....keep in mind, Southwest has not released their fares/schedule yet...but I do not know if they fly near you. Last I checked our fare had gone up to 231...still not too bad. I am just praying we do not have a freak snowstorm that holds us up!
