Airfare question for May trip

When we went last May we got a rate out of Buffalo of $175/person. In checking the rates today they are around $215. Have the rates gone up that much in the past year? If so, is this a good rate or should I wait and hope for a price drop closer to the trip?

I'm not sure, I'm looking at March rates from houston, it looks really high too. And of course all one-pass points are doubled during spring break. I'm in the process of trying to find a flight deal as I type this.

I would gamble & wait till mid January. We have bought tickets during January for the past 5 yrs and the airlines have always had a sale during that month. I am also waiting to buy for May. If you don't see a sale by 1/25, then I would go ahead & pay the extra. Most airlines will give you a voucher for the difference to use next time.

I found an Airtran rate out of Pittsburgh for a direct flight for $195/person. It appearded to be a "sale" price so I grabbed it. It gets me into MCO earlier than other flights and not having to change planes is a plus.

Thanks for your responses!

I have tickets for May out of Rochester on Delta.
I bought tickets June 03 for May 04 travel because as soon as I could book they were $130 per person round trip. Two weeks later they went to $165 and now they are at $210.
I actually live 5 minutes from Syracuse airport but when I bought tickets it was $246 per person out of SYR so the 90 minute drive saves me $200 after I pay to park in Rochester.

I went to WDW this past Oct and booked as soon as I could out of SYR at $212 and the price never came back to that. I checked the airline website about twice a week waiting to get a credit and it never happened.

You might want to take the $215 before it goes any higher. Like others have said if it does go down you can get a voucher.

Good luck.

Matt how far is Pittsburgh for you?
Direct flight is a bonus I'm glad you got something booked because without plane tickets you can't go far.
When in May are you going?
I'll be there May 13-19 and again in Sept which I have tickets for already.

Have a good day.
Lori

Just keep checking fares. You will see a trend. At least for American, when I was checking fares for a trip for NY to LA, there fares went from $350 to $850, and that was throughout the day. Isn't it amazing, if you just happen to click on the wrong time it cost cost you bundles. It seemed to go up and down throughout the week and sometimes throughout the day, I was amazed.

Lori,

We're right about in the middle between Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland. Pittsburgh is around a 2-hour drive for me. I prefer the BUffalo airport as it's only 1-1/2 hours and easier to get to but I couldn't pass up a direct flight. We'll drive down the night before and stay at a hotel near the airport where I can leave my car. We'd end up paying $60+ for airport parking otherwise so this way for a few dollars more we won't be rushed driving down there the day of the flight.

We're going May 8 - 16. Actually in WDW the 8th thru 13th then heading down to Universal for a few days. So we'll be leaving WDW when you get there. We'll make sure to lewave some magic for you:teeth: !

I recently received a call from my Travel Agent explaining that US Air flights will increase considerably due to contracts coming up this year. I switched over to Delta flying outta Syracuse and saved a bundle. Hope this helps. :)
